The call

Adobe's revenue and user base keep growing through the AI shift, but investors are pricing in real doubt about pricing power and leadership during a CEO and CFO transition.

Adobe sells design and video tools that millions of professionals and companies pay for every month. The company is hard to replace because so many people know how to use Adobe products, big companies have built their work around them, and Adobe keeps adding new features. However, Canva is becoming more powerful for everyday users, new AI video tools like Sora and Midjourney are getting better at creative work, and Figma already beat Adobe in design software for websites and apps. The big question is whether Adobe can keep charging high prices as AI makes some creative skills easier and cheaper, especially if the new CEO and CFO bring fresh ideas or stumble during the transition.

Why
01
AI pressure: Midjourney, Runway, Sora, Kling, ElevenLabs, and Canva's AI tools. These tools generate images, video, and audio directly, cutting into the skill-based editing work Adobe charges premium prices for. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Figma and Canva. Figma already owns UI/UX design after Adobe's $20B bid to buy it collapsed in 2023, and Canva's 200M users are moving into Adobe's pro territory. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. 850M+ monthly users and deep workflow lock-in across creative, document, and enterprise marketing tools that took decades to build.
What would change this call
Adobe names internal vs external CEO/CFO successors within 12 months. External hires would signal the board sees the current strategy as broken.
H2 FY26 Creative Cloud ARR growth rate reported at Q3/Q4 earnings. Deceleration beyond guidance would show freemium pivot is cannibalizing paid tiers.
A frontier lab (Runway, Midjourney, ElevenLabs) ships a brand-safe, enterprise-integrated creative suite. Would show Adobe's workflow-lock moat is breachable at the enterprise tier, not just prosumer.

Could AI replace Adobe?
Unlikely outright. Adobe's Firefly AI Assistant, in public beta since April 27, 2026, integrates over 30 rival AI models like Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, and Runway Gen-4.5, turning frontier labs into partners. AI-first ARR tripled year over year to exceed $500 million by Q2 FY2026.
