The call

AISpeech has real automotive traction and narrowing losses, but its IPO outcome and Huawei's cockpit push both land within the same six months.

AISpeech builds speech recognition and voice technology used in over 200 car models across China and sells microphones and voice systems to businesses worldwide, generating $95 million per year. The company has real advantages in cars through custom chips and engineering standards, but faces two big threats: Huawei and other Chinese tech giants can build the same technology themselves and already work with the same car makers, while new AI systems from OpenAI and Google can do basic voice tasks so well that simple voice features become commodities anyone can buy cheaply. The company's path forward depends entirely on whether it can go public on China's STAR Market in the next six months, which will determine how much money it has to compete and survive against these larger rivals.

Why
01
AI pressure: Frontier multimodal voice modes from OpenAI, Google, Zhipu, and MiniMax. Generic speech recognition and voice chat get folded into big frontier models, squeezing AISpeech's lower-end IoT and SDK licensing revenue. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Huawei HarmonyOS Cockpit. Huawei already ships its own in-car voice and cockpit software to Chinese automakers, competing directly for the same OEM design wins. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep integration in 200+ launched vehicle models across 60+ automakers, its own speech chip, and 70+ authored industry standards.
What would change this call
Huawei HarmonyOS Cockpit voice wins in flagship BYD, Chery, or SAIC models within 12-18 months. Would show Huawei converting hardware leverage into direct automotive voice-share losses for AISpeech.
STAR Market IPO outcome (approval, rejection, or indefinite delay) after May 2026 acceptance. Would show whether AISpeech secures public capital to fund competition or faces a capital-access setback.
Unisound's U2 large model and its automotive/enterprise design wins over the next year. Would show whether a direct China peer is taking share in the same voice-AI segments.

Questions people ask
Is AISpeech in financial trouble?
AISpeech posted revenue of RMB 687.7 million in 2025, up from RMB 600.8 million in 2024, and its net loss narrowed to RMB 57.0 million in 2025 from RMB 140.4 million in 2024. Gross margin stood at 63.24% in 2025, so the trend is improving even though the company has not yet reached profitability.
What is AISpeech's biggest risk?
The biggest risk is that automakers bypass outside voice vendors altogether, since Volkswagen's in-house LLM assistant and Cerence's xUI system are both shipped alternatives that could let carmakers deal directly with fewer or no third-party suppliers. AISpeech's protection comes mainly from its deployment scale, over 25 million vehicles across roughly 300 models, but our July 2026 assessment found little else protecting the business, meaning rivals do not need much of an advantage to challenge its position.
Who are AISpeech's biggest competitors?
iFlytek is the dominant player in China's in-vehicle voice market, holding the top spot ahead of AISpeech's 22% share (ranked #2) as of 2025. AISpeech also faces pressure from Cerence's newer xUI product, Volkswagen's in-house LLM assistant, and SoundHound AI, which is expanding into automotive voice deals with Stellantis in Europe.
Is AISpeech at risk from AI?
Yes, partly. Carmakers can now buy or build their own voice LLM stack instead of licensing AISpeech's system, a shift already shipped via Cerence xUI and Volkswagen's in-house onboard LLMs, which could cut AISpeech out of new contract wins.
Can a giant just copy what AISpeech does?
It's likely, since iFlytek already leads China's voice AI market with far greater scale and cash and can replicate AISpeech's automotive features. Our July 2026 assessment of the 263 automotive-category companies found AISpeech's protection against imitation to be only moderate, resting mainly on its deployment scale of over 25 million vehicles across roughly 300 models.
What should I watch next for AISpeech?
Watch whether AISpeech completes its planned STAR Market IPO listing by the end of 2026, and whether it reports positive full-year net income for fiscal year 2026, expected around April 2027. Also worth tracking are contract re-competitions with Mercedes, VW, Porsche, and Audi against Cerence xUI and in-house LLMs, anticipated in 2027 to 2028.
