The call

ASAPP has real enterprise deployments but a frozen valuation while both CCaaS giants and AI-native challengers close in from opposite sides.

ASAPP builds software that uses artificial intelligence to help customer service teams handle calls and chats faster and better. It is hard to replace because it connects deeply into existing systems and handles sensitive customer data, which requires special care. But two big threats are coming at it at the same time: big companies like NICE and Genesys that already run customer service operations can add AI tools to what they already own without losing money, and newer AI companies like Sierra and Decagon are building similar tools from scratch with fresh investment and getting more attention right now. What matters most is whether ASAPP can raise new money at a higher value in the next year or so, which would show investors still believe in it.

Why
01
AI pressure: Sierra and Decagon. AI-native rivals with fresher capital sell the same automation pitch to ASAPP's enterprise targets like American Airlines. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: NICE, Genesys, Five9, Verint. CCaaS suite owners can bolt agentic AI onto systems they already run, undercutting ASAPP's separate-vendor pitch. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep integration into live contact center workflows and compliance-heavy accounts like American Airlines makes ripping ASAPP out costly.
What would change this call
ASAPP announces a new priced funding round in the next 6-12 months. Shows whether investors value it above or below the frozen 2021 $1.6B mark.
American Airlines or a similar marquee ASAPP logo signs with Sierra or Decagon. Would show ASAPP losing a flagship account to AI-native rivals.
NICE, Genesys, or Five9 ships an agentic AI feature adopted by shared enterprise clients. Would show CCaaS incumbents absorbing ASAPP's differentiation from inside the workflow.
