The call

Aurorin has a real technical idea but no customers, no funding depth, and rivals already shipping the same AI-CAD pitch.

Aurorin CAD is building new software for engineers to design parts using conversation and modern code instead of old 1980s geometry engines. The problem is that Zoo.dev already shipped almost the same idea with much more money and a year head start, and big companies like Dassault and Siemens are adding AI features to their existing software every quarter. What makes this hard to copy is the geometry engine underneath, but what matters for customers is the AI chat layer on top, which anyone can build. Aurorin has no customers, no revenue, and no way to lock in users like the big players do. The only thing that could change the picture is if Aurorin finds a major company willing to use it before Zoo.dev or Dassault ship their next big AI updates in the next year or two.

Why
01
AI pressure: Zoo.dev's Zookeeper conversational CAD agent. Zoo.dev already ships the same AI-chat-plus-kernel idea with 10x the funding and a year's lead. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Dassault Systemes (3DEXPERIENCE AURA generative assembly), Autodesk Fusion Copilot, PTC Onshape AI Advisor. Big CAD vendors are adding AI layers to existing tools customers already use, closing the gap Aurorin is betting on. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A from-scratch B-Rep kernel is hard to copy fast, but with zero customers or design partners it protects nothing yet.
What would change this call
Dassault Q3 2026 earnings call, Oct 28 2026, reports shipped generative-assembly text-to-CAD feature. Shows incumbent closing the AI-native CAD gap Aurorin is betting on.
Zoo.dev ships assemblies, sheet-metal, or cloud-storage features in Q1-Q2 2027 with reported customer traction. Shows better-funded rival executing the same modern-kernel-plus-AI thesis first.
Aurorin announces a named design-partner or pilot customer before its kernel reaches v1.0. Would show Aurorin gaining real adoption instead of remaining pre-revenue.
Key numbers
  • $500K pre-seed raised from YC and Spot VC (2026-05-20)
  • Team size: 1 (solo founder Michael Baron) (2026-03-29)
  • Zoo.dev shipped Zookeeper CAD agent Feb 2026 (2026-02-05)
Named risks
  • No revenue, customers, or named enterprise pilots publicly reported as of May 2026. Severity: high
  • Solo founder with no first hire yet; single point of failure for entire company. Severity: high
  • Custom B-Rep kernel reportedly takes 3 to 5 years and needs scarce computational geometry talent. Severity: high
  • Zoo.dev and incumbents are shipping AI-native CAD features faster and with far more capital. Severity: high
  • No public API, SDK, or developer portal limits integration and enterprise credibility. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Aurorin CAD profitable in 2026?
No. Aurorin CAD has raised only $500K in pre-seed funding as of May 20, 2026, reports no revenue or customer counts, and distributes its product as a free download for Mac and Windows with no published pricing.
Who founded Aurorin CAD?
Aurorin CAD was founded in 2026 by Michael Baron, a solo founder, according to a CB Insights profile dated May 20, 2026. The company is a Y Combinator Winter 2026 batch member, publicly launched via YC Launch on February 24, 2026.
How many people work at Aurorin CAD?
Y Combinator's own company profile lists Aurorin CAD's team size as 1 as of March 29, 2026. The company is actively recruiting a Founding Engineer in San Francisco at $100K to $150K salary plus 2 to 4 percent equity.
Who is Aurorin CAD's biggest competitor?
Zoo.dev is Aurorin's closest peer, building an AI-native geometry engine from scratch. Zoo.dev shipped its Zookeeper conversational CAD agent on February 5, 2026, backed by Madrona, Nat Friedman, and Carl Bass, roughly a year ahead of Aurorin.
Could AI replace what Aurorin CAD is building?
Aurorin's chat-based AI agent for geometry creation is its headline feature, but that layer is easily copyable. Dassault expanded its 3DEXPERIENCE AI-Native Agentic Platform on July 23, 2026, and Zoo.dev already ships a rival conversational CAD agent.
Who owns Aurorin CAD?
Aurorin CAD is privately held and independent, founded and run by Michael Baron. Investors include Y Combinator and Spot VC, backing a $500K seed/pre-seed round reported as of May 20, 2026. No parent company exists.
