The call

A profitable niche CDN operating next to a much bigger rival that already sells the same thing, with reliability and funding signals still unresolved.

BunnyCDN runs a service that speeds up websites and stores files by spreading them across data centers worldwide. It is profitable and has real customers, but Cloudflare already does everything BunnyCDN does and charges less, which makes it very hard for BunnyCDN to compete on price or features. The company could stay afloat if it fixes its outages (it had 49 in one year) or if Cloudflare raises its prices, but if Cloudflare cuts prices further or BunnyCDN keeps having reliability problems, customers will switch.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI product directly targets CDN delivery, though AI crawler traffic adds load that Bunny Shield already filters. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Cloudflare. Cloudflare already ships every product Bunny sells (CDN, storage, security) at the same self-serve, low-price tier. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Bunny survives in a low-margin niche Cloudflare doesn't bother squeezing, backed by 10 years of profitable bootstrapping.
What would change this call
Cloudflare announces new free-tier or standalone CDN pricing undercutting Bunny's per-GB rates. Would show the one rival with reach into Bunny's niche is squeezing its margin floor.
Bunny.net outage count over next 12 months compared to the prior 49-in-12-months pace. Would show whether reliability is improving or continuing to erode trust.
Bunny.net discloses new funding round or profitability statement before the 60-month mark since its 2022 raise. Would show whether the company is growing on its own terms or has stalled.

  • 49 tracked outages in trailing 12 months as of June 2026 threaten reliability trust. Severity: medium
  • No new funding disclosed since October 2022, over 45 months, signals possible slowed growth. Severity: medium
  • Thin commodity margins typical of CDN infrastructure business. Severity: medium
  • Industry consolidation (Edgio collapse) could favor larger incumbents absorbing displaced customers instead of Bunny. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is BunnyCDN (bunny.net) profitable in 2026?
Bunny.net has not disclosed profitability figures. It is bootstrapped, raised a single $6M round in October 2022 led by Runa Capital and Capital Genetics, and has taken no further funding since, which the company frames as disciplined growth rather than a loss-making struggle.
Could AI replace Bunny.net's CDN service?
Unlikely soon. Bunny.net's core value is physical infrastructure, 119 PoPs and 250 Tbps+ capacity as of October 2025, that AI cannot replicate. But AI-driven routing and support automation is becoming industry standard, eroding the simplicity edge Bunny markets against rivals.
Who is Bunny.net's biggest competitor?
Cloudflare. It already ships every product in Bunny's line, including Workers, R2, D1, Stream, and Images, and dominates the same self-serve, developer-friendly, low-price CDN segment Bunny.net occupies, with no structural wall preventing Cloudflare from squeezing margins.
Has Bunny.net raised any new funding since 2022?
No new round has been publicly reported since its $6 million raise in October 2022, led by Runa Capital and Capital Genetics. As of mid-2026 that is over 45 months without disclosed funding, which the company has framed as bootstrapped, self-serve growth.
How reliable is Bunny.net's CDN service?
Outage tracker isdown.app recorded 179 total incidents since July 2020 and 49 in the trailing 12 months as of June 21, 2026, including a roughly two-hour DNS-related outage on May 21, 2026 that took down its dashboard, API, and DNS.
What is Bunny Shield and how big is it?
Bunny Shield is bunny.net's WAF, DDoS, and bot-protection suite, launched in preview April 15, 2025 and reaching general availability October 30, 2025. In its first three months it processed 9.7 billion requests and blocked 35.3 million malicious requests, per the company.
