The call

Capitolis sits inside a bank-owned network that's hard to bypass, but its valuation is frozen while OSTTRA and Quantile ship competing AI-driven optimization tools.

Capitolis built a neutral platform where seven major banks work together to compress financial trades and reduce risk, similar to how multiple gas stations might share one billing system instead of competing separately. The company is hard to replace because those seven banks own it together, which keeps any single bank from building their own version. But OSTTRA (owned by the London Stock Exchange and CME) and Quantile (also owned by the London Stock Exchange) already offer similar services and have deeper pockets and stronger backing. The key thing to watch is whether Capitolis can prove it is growing fast enough and raising money at higher valuations, because its last official valuation from four years ago has not budged despite the company claiming to have raised hundreds of millions of dollars since then.

Why
01
AI pressure: OSTTRA's HUB AI-driven optimization engine. OSTTRA's AI optimization tool is live and could out-fill Capitolis's compression runs without a public counter yet. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: OSTTRA (LSEG/CME/KKR) and Quantile (LSEG). Both rivals already run compression and optimization services for the same bank clients Capitolis serves. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Seven major banks co-own the network, plus NFA, CFTC no-action, and UK FCA OTF status make it hard to route around.
What would change this call
Capitolis announces a new priced equity round within 12 months. Valuation above the frozen $1.6B 2022 mark would show real growth, below or flat would show stalling.
OSTTRA reports results from its HUB AI optimization integration (expected mid-2026). Better fill rates than Capitolis with no public Capitolis reply would show Capitolis losing technical edge.
20 Gates Management U.S. secured financing platform deal closes and is integrated. A smooth close would show Capitolis successfully diversifying beyond compression into new products.

Questions people ask
Is Capitolis profitable in 2026?
No audited financials are public. Third-party aggregators estimate revenue near $33.6M as of June 2026, but Capitolis itself has only described unquantified 'strong business momentum' in a November 2024 statement, with no profitability figures disclosed.
Could AI replace Capitolis?
Unlikely soon. Capitolis's value sits in a bank-owned neutral network and regulatory licenses (NFA registration, CFTC no-action relief, UK FCA OTF as of March 2026), not just algorithms. Rival OSTTRA acquired AI firm HUB in July 2026 to automate post-trade workflows, a pressure point Capitolis has not publicly answered.
Who owns Capitolis?
Capitolis is privately held, founded in 2017 by Gil Mandelzis, Tom Glocer, and Igor Teleshevsky. Seven major banks, Citi, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, State Street, UBS, Barclays, and BNP Paribas, are strategic equity investors as of the August 2025 funding round.
Is Capitolis a safe place to work in 2026?
Mixed signals. Capitolis added a President, COO, Chief Product Officer, and Head of Market Development in January 2026, then a new CFO effective August 3, 2026, five C-suite changes in roughly 18 months, which suggests active scaling but also leadership turnover risk.
Who is Capitolis's biggest competitor?
OSTTRA (LSEG/CME/KKR-backed, TriOptima heritage) and Quantile (LSEG-owned) are the main rivals in derivatives compression and optimization. Notably, Capitolis, Quantile, and TriOptima jointly requested the CFTC no-action letter for post-trade risk-reduction services issued June 17, 2026.
Has Capitolis had layoffs?
No layoffs are documented in public reporting. Instead, Capitolis has been expanding its leadership bench, appointing four new executives in January 2026 and a new CFO, Ashwath Bhat, effective August 3, 2026.
