The call

Capture One still owns the high-end tethering niche, but a stalled sale, a pricier subscription, and AI-native rivals like Evoto are all pulling at the same base of studio customers.

Capture One is software that helps photographers edit and organize raw images from their cameras, and it works especially well with expensive Leica and Hasselblad cameras through special partnerships. The problem is that Adobe's Lightroom now does almost the same thing for half the price, and new AI tools like Evoto can edit photos automatically with almost no manual work, which removes the main reason professionals paid extra for Capture One. Everything hinges on whether the company's current owner can find a buyer who wants to turn it around, and whether photographers stick around after the recent price increase or jump to Lightroom or AI alternatives instead.

Why
01
AI pressure: Evoto. Evoto's AI-native, pay-per-export editing lets studios skip manual color work Capture One charges a premium for. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Adobe Lightroom. Lightroom costs less than half as much and keeps adding AI editing, squeezing Capture One's price story. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep tethering and RAW support tied to Leica and Hasselblad cameras that pro studios still rely on.
