The call

Care GP has real early traction in a still-open AU niche, but Lyrebird, Heidi, and the practice-management incumbents are circling the same workflows it hasn't locked down yet.

Care GP builds software that helps Australian doctors' offices handle paperwork, billing, and referrals automatically. Right now it is not that hard to copy: the big practice-management companies like Best Practice and MedicalDirector could add these same features, and a smaller rival called Lyrebird Health is already doing exactly that in the same market. Care GP has grown from 150 to over 400 clinics and kept 85 percent of pilot customers, which is real progress, but the company needs to finish building a complete system that locks clinics in by the end of 2026, or it risks being absorbed into a competitor's software as just one feature among many.

Why
01
AI pressure: Lyrebird Health and Heidi Health. Both are AU-specific AI ops tools moving into billing and referral automation, the same ground Care GP has not shipped yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Best Practice Software and MedicalDirector. These practice-management systems could bolt on native AI agents and cut off Care GP's access to the clinic workflow overnight. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Early integration work with MedicalDirector plus 85% pilot conversion and zero reported churn give it a head start, not a lock.
What would change this call
Lyrebird Health or Heidi Health ships a billing or referral automation feature by mid-2026. Shows a rival closing the exact workflow gap Care GP needs for lock-in.
Best Practice or MedicalDirector announces a native AI ops agent. Would let the incumbent absorb Care GP's function without needing to buy it.
Care GP's MedicalDirector integration and Bill/Rachel agents reach production by Dec 2026. Confirms Care GP is shipping the roadmap fast enough to keep its clinic base.

Questions people ask
Is Care GP profitable in 2026?
Care GP claimed to have reached profitability as of October 2025, alongside 150+ GP clinics served and zero churn, per its own press release dated 2025-10-20. This is a self-reported, unaudited vendor claim, not independently verified financial data.
Who is Care GP's biggest competitor?
Lyrebird Health is Care GP's closest rival: an Australia-native AI scribe with Best Practice Premier integration and MBS-billing logic, expanding into the same billing and referral workflows Care GP is building (Bill, Rachel agents) as of its 2026 comparison page.
Could AI replace Care GP?
Care GP's product is itself agentic AI automating GP clinic admin, so the risk isn't AI replacing it but rivals like Lyrebird or Heidi, or incumbents Best Practice and MedicalDirector, shipping identical AI features faster, absorbing Care GP's niche by late 2026.
Who owns Care GP?
Care GP is privately held and venture-backed, founded 2024 in Sydney by CEO Melvin Chen. Early angel backers reported as of 2025-10-20 include Ryan Vo (CEO of customer Nuvo Health) and Startmate Ventures, affiliated with Blackbird Ventures; no priced round is public.
