The call

CCAvenue is a large, profitable gateway racing to convert regulatory status and AI pilots into proof before rivals with full licenses pull ahead.

CCAvenue lets online stores accept credit card and digital payments across India. It is profitable and has millions of customers, but it faces two big problems: first, competitors like Razorpay and Cashfree have full government licenses while CCAvenue only has provisional permission, and second, payment apps like Google Pay and PhonePe now let shoppers pay directly without needing a payment gateway at all, which takes away CCAvenue's business. The company's growth has slowed sharply (from 61% down to 28%), and its recent claims of a 122% jump depend on unproven AI products that are not yet verified by an outside auditor. What could matter most: whether CCAvenue gets its full government license soon, whether its next audited results show the growth claims are real, and whether stores actually start using its new AI payment tools.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google's Agent Payment Protocol (AP2) agentic-checkout ecosystem. AI shopping agents could route payments straight through banks, cutting out gateways unless CCAvenue's own CommerceAI/PayCentral.ai layer gets merchant adoption. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: PayU and Cashfree Payments. Both already hold full RBI Payment Aggregator licenses while CCAvenue still runs on in-principle authorization. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Roughly 3 million merchants already wired into its checkout and settlement flows, plus new PPI and PA licenses in progress.

Questions people ask
Is CCAvenue profitable in 2026?
Yes. Parent AvenuesAI Limited (formerly Infibeam Avenues) reported FY24 net profit of ₹147 crore, up 55% YoY, and company-reported Q3 FY26 (quarter ended Dec 2025) profit of ~₹71.88 crore, though the latter is unaudited and company-attributed to an AI-pivot narrative.
Who owns CCAvenue?
CCAvenue is the flagship payments brand of AvenuesAI Limited, a listed Indian fintech (NSE: CCAVENUE, BSE: 539807), which rebranded from Infibeam Avenues Limited effective February 3, 2026. The original CCAvenue gateway was merged into Infibeam Avenues around 2017.
Could AI replace CCAvenue's payment gateway business?
Unlikely to fully replace it. CCAvenue's RBI payment-aggregator licensing (in-principle since May 2024), bank integrations, and ~3 million merchant base aren't AI-replicable. The company itself is deploying AI via CommerceAI and MCP protocol (launched October 9, 2025) rather than being displaced by it.
Who is CCAvenue's biggest competitor?
Cashfree, PayU, and Razorpay. Cashfree secured RBI's cross-border payment aggregator (PA-CB) license first in July 2024, and PayU received full-stack RBI authorization in 2025, both ahead of CCAvenue, which still holds only in-principle PA authorization as of 2026.
Does CCAvenue have a full RBI payment aggregator license?
No. As of 2026, CCAvenue/AvenuesAI holds only in-principle RBI Payment Aggregator authorization, granted May 2024, and in-principle Prepaid Payment Instrument authorization added January-February 2026, while peers Cashfree and PayU already hold full authorizations.
What is CCAvenue's parent company revenue?
AvenuesAI (formerly Infibeam Avenues) reported FY24 consolidated revenue of ₹3,171 crore (up 61% YoY) and FY25 revenue of roughly ₹3,774 to ₹4,065.7 crore (up 27-28% YoY), per company/press figures for fiscal years ending March 2024 and March 2025.
