Cerebras Systems
Cerebras makes wafer-scale chips for fast AI training and inference, competing with Nvidia GPUs.
Cerebras has real chips, real customers, and real growth, but thin margins, two-client concentration, and a newly armed Nvidia make its next few earnings calls decisive.
Cerebras Systems designs and sells specialized computer chips that run artificial intelligence models very quickly. The company has locked in major customers like OpenAI and Amazon Web Services, and it grew revenue 76 percent in 2025. However, Nvidia, the dominant chip maker, just bought a competing fast-chip company and is pushing hard into the same market. Cerebras also makes much less profit on each chip sold than Nvidia does, and most of its revenue comes from just two customers in the UAE, which has already caused legal problems. The big question is whether Cerebras's speed advantage stays real enough to attract new customers, whether the company can finally become as profitable as its rivals, and whether those two major customers keep buying from it or switch to Nvidia's new offerings.
MBZUAI+G42 share of revenue drops below 60% in FY26 filings. Whether OpenAI/AWS deals are genuinely diversifying revenue away from UAE concentration.
Nvidia-Groq stack announces or wins a head-to-head inference deal at OpenAI-scale. Whether Nvidia's acquisition is converting into actual customer displacement of Cerebras.
- FY25 revenue $510M, up 76% YoY
- 86% of 2025 revenue from MBZUAI and G42 combined
- Stock down to $179-190 from $386 IPO peak
- Customer concentration: MBZUAI and G42 made up 86% of 2025 revenue, prior CFIUS scrutiny.

|---|---|---|
| Nvidia | losing to | Nvidia's ~$20B Groq acquisition (Dec 24, 2025) directly targets Cerebras's inference-speed niche |
| Nvidia | contesting | Cerebras claims 15-20x faster inference on benchmarks vs GPU approaches as of June 24, 2026 |
| Groq (via Nvidia) | contesting | Groq's LPU technology now backed by Nvidia's resources after Dec 2025 deal |
| AWS/hyperscalers | gaining on | AWS bought $270M in Cerebras stock and partnered in March 2026, but also builds Trainium chips |
| OpenAI custom silicon | contesting | OpenAI signed $20B compute deal with Cerebras (Jan 2026) while also pursuing custom chip efforts |
- Is Cerebras Systems profitable in 2026?
- Cerebras reported FY2025 net income of $237.8M, but this was driven mostly by non-operating fair-value gains; the company actually posted a $145.9M operating loss in 2025, and gross margin guidance was cut to 38-41% for FY26 as of June 24, 2026.
- Did Cerebras Systems have layoffs?
- No layoffs are reported. Headcount has grown roughly 81.5% since 2023, reaching an estimated 926-973 employees by mid-2026 according to Revelio Labs and Crustdata data from December 2025 and July 2026.
- Could Nvidia replace Cerebras Systems?
- Nvidia is not blocked from competing and moved directly at Cerebras's inference-speed niche by acquiring Groq's IP and talent for about $20B in December 2025, though Cerebras still claims 15-20x faster inference on benchmarks as of June 24, 2026.
- Who is Cerebras Systems's biggest competitor?
- Nvidia is the dominant incumbent, generating about $215.9B in FY2026 revenue versus Cerebras's roughly $510M, a 423x size gap, with Nvidia's mid-70% gross margins far exceeding Cerebras's 38-41% guidance as of June 30, 2026.
- Who owns Cerebras Systems?
- Cerebras is now public on Nasdaq under CBRS after its May 14, 2026 IPO. Major shareholders per SEC filings include Benchmark, Foundation Capital, Eclipse Ventures, Alpha Wave, founders Andrew Feldman and Sean Lie, G42, and OpenAI, which holds warrants for about 33.4M shares.
- How concentrated is Cerebras Systems's customer base?
- Very concentrated: MBZUAI accounted for 62% of 2025 revenue and G42 another 24%, together about 86% of the year's total, a structure that reportedly triggered a CFIUS review that killed Cerebras's first IPO attempt.
