The call

Chilwa holds real ground and a real resource, but its future rides on drill results, a scoping study, and its ability to keep raising cash without running out of runway.

Chilwa Minerals is an early-stage mining company searching for valuable minerals like titanium, niobium, and rare earths on land it controls in Malawi. It is hard to copy because the mineral deposits are fixed in one place and Chilwa holds the rights, but it is easy to replace because other mining companies operate in the same region and other countries have similar deposits. The company burns through millions of dollars each year testing whether the minerals are worth digging up, so the one thing that could change everything is either finding a lot more ore than expected, locking in solid funding from governments or investors that back critical minerals, or getting a drop in commodity prices to reverse (which would make mining cheaper and faster).

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. This is a physical mining exploration business; AI models have no bearing on ore grades, drilling results, or financing outcomes. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Established heavy mineral sands producers like Rio Tinto and Iluka Resources. Bigger producers with deeper capital could develop competing African HMS deposits or squeeze Chilwa out of financing and offtake markets later. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Exclusive licences over an 881 km² Malawi tenement, a JORC Indicated resource, and Mota-Engil's 30.6% stake plus board seat.
What would change this call
Completion of the HMS Scoping Study and revised Mineral Resource Estimate. Shows whether the Malawi mineral sands project has credible, financeable economics.
Results from Nakombe niobium-REE Phase 1/2 drilling (11 additional holes). Indicates whether the niobium-REE discovery adds real resource value beyond mineral sands.

Questions people ask
Is Chilwa Minerals profitable in 2026?
No. Chilwa Minerals' own SEC Form F-1/A, filed July 22, 2026, states the company was incorporated in February 2022 and has earned no revenue from operations. It remains a pre-revenue exploration company funded entirely by equity raises and has no production or offtake agreements.
Who owns Chilwa Minerals?
Chilwa Minerals listed on the ASX (CHW) on July 5, 2023 after an A$8 million IPO. Mota-Engil, via its Investments Malawi entity, retained a 30.6% stake at listing, having sold it the Lake Chilwa project, and Mota-Engil Deputy CEO Manuel Mota still sits on Chilwa's board as of November 2025.
Could AI replace Chilwa Minerals' business?
No. Chilwa's core value is exclusive JORC exploration licences over an 881 km2 Malawi tenement granted by the government, plus physical drilling and assay work. It uses conventional Leapfrog geoscience software, but AI cannot substitute for the legal licence, drilling, or metallurgy central to its business.
Is Chilwa Minerals going public on Nasdaq?
Yes. Chilwa filed with the SEC on July 9, 2026 seeking to raise up to $6 million to uplist to Nasdaq under ticker CHWM. A Form F-1/A filed July 23, 2026 set a proposed ADS price of US$6.11 at a 1:10 ADS-to-ordinary-share ratio.
What is Chilwa Minerals' flagship asset?
The Lake Chilwa Critical Minerals Project in southern Malawi, covering roughly 881 km2. As of an April 27, 2026 investor presentation, Chilwa cites a combined 113 million tonne JORC resource at 4.03% total heavy minerals, including 4.4 million tonnes of contained ilmenite, alongside emerging niobium and rare earth discoveries.
Is investing in or joining Chilwa Minerals risky?
Yes, it is a high-risk, pre-revenue mineral explorer. It raised A$8 million at listing in July 2023, another A$8 million in October 2025, and is now seeking a US$6 million Nasdaq raise as of July 2026, indicating a pattern of repeated dilutive fundraising with no proven path to production revenue.
