The call

Class101 turned its first profit in 2024 but is still funding itself through bridge rounds while betting an unproven creator-commerce pivot can hold ground against free video platforms and AI-made tutorials.

Class101 lets people take and teach online hobby classes like drawing, cooking, and crafts. It is not hard for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, or Patreon to copy what Class101 does, since they already have billions of users and could add the same features tomorrow. Also, artificial intelligence can now generate step-by-step hobby tutorials automatically, which could replace a lot of the human-taught classes that Class101 sells. The company's new "Creator Home" feature (launched in late 2024) tries to lock teachers into Class101 by letting them manage their own community and sell merchandise on the platform instead of using other apps, but it is unclear if enough creators will actually stay loyal or if this is just moving them to compete on the same turf as Patreon and YouTube rather than building something those giants cannot easily copy.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generative AI tutors and AI-made how-to video. Much of the catalog is generic hobby how-to, the exact content type AI video tools can now generate cheaply. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: YouTube, Patreon, Instagram, TikTok. These platforms already offer free tutorials and creator monetization tools, the same turf Class101's new Creator Home push targets. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. About 130,000 registered creators and 6,000 existing classes give it a working supply base rivals would need to rebuild in Korean.
What would change this call
Class101 raises another bridge round (not a primary) in 2026. Would show continued financial fragility despite 2024's profit turnaround.
Creator Home shows top creators consolidating community, merch, and coaching exclusively on Class101 by mid 2026. Would show real creator lock-in rather than Patreon/YouTube being used as side channels.
Class101 posts a second consecutive year of operating profit for 2025. Would show the 2024 profit was sustainable, not a one-off.

  • Repeated bridge financing (2023, 2024, Feb 2025) instead of confident primary rounds signals cash management strain. Severity: high
  • Core tutorial catalog directly substitutable by generative AI instructional content. Severity: high
  • Creator Home pivot puts company on turf already dominated by YouTube, Patreon, and Instagram. Severity: medium
  • Headcount figures conflict across sources (76 to 130), suggesting unclear organizational stability. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Class101 profitable in 2026?
Class101 reported its first-ever annual operating profit in 2024, with KRW 3.9 billion (about $2.8-3M) in operating profit, per a March 2025 report. This followed a severe 2022 capital erosion crisis, so sustained multi-year profitability is not yet proven as of mid 2026.
Could AI replace Class101's tutorial content?
Generic how-to hobby tutorials, the bulk of Class101's roughly 6,000-class catalog as of February 2025, are directly exposed to substitution by generative AI tutors and AI-generated instructional video, since they are standard technique demonstrations rather than exclusive creator experiences.
Who is Class101's biggest competitor?
Class101 competes against creator-economy infrastructure giants YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Patreon for creator attention and monetization, plus direct hobby-learning peers like MasterClass, Skillshare, and Domestika, according to PitchBook and comparison sources as of 2025-2026.
Who owns Class101?
Class101 is privately held and venture-backed, legally registered as Pedaling Inc., headquartered in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It has raised roughly $61-63M across about nine rounds from investors including Goodwater Capital, Strong Ventures, SBVA, and Mirae Asset, with no IPO or acquisition as of 2026.
How much funding has Class101 raised recently?
In February 2025 Class101 secured a 3.5 billion KRW (about $2.4-2.6M) bridge investment from Strong Ventures, followed by a reported KRW 18.5 billion (about $12.77M) tranche in March 2025 earmarked partly for AI expansion, per Korean press reports.
What is Class101's Creator Home pivot?
Launched around August 2024, Creator Home is a pilot letting top creators combine classes, community, and merchandise sales on a customizable page, shifting Class101 from pure course sales toward creator-led commerce, a space already dominated by Patreon, YouTube, and Instagram.
