The call

A high-margin, deeply entrenched platform in aerospace and clinical trials growing slowly, with Siemens winning the AI headlines while account-level switching has not yet followed.

Dassault Systèmes sells computer programs that help companies design aircraft, cars, and medicines. Once a customer uses their software for years, switching to a rival like Siemens becomes extremely hard because regulators require re-certification and re-testing; the software is also woven into companies' day-to-day work. AI and language models cannot replace Dassault because they cannot deliver the safety approvals that hospitals and airplane makers legally need. The question is whether Siemens will steal market share by being faster with AI tools, which would turn Dassault from a safe, boring investment into one that slowly loses ground.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Generalist AI can't produce FDA-validated clinical records or DO-178C-qualified aircraft CAD, so it feeds this platform via Virtual Companions rather than replacing it. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Siemens (Teamcenter, NX, Teamcenter Copilot). Siemens gets ranked ahead on Gen AI PLM narrative, but no named CATIA or ENOVIA account losses at Tier-1 aerospace or auto customers have surfaced yet. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Switching costs measured in years of recertification lock aerospace, defense, and clinical customers into CATIA, ENOVIA, and Medidata as systems of record.
What would change this call
Named Tier-1 aerospace or automotive account switches from CATIA/ENOVIA to Siemens Teamcenter/NX. Would show Siemens is displacing Dassault in core accounts, not just leading in rankings.
Medidata revenue trend in H2 2026 and Q3 2026 earnings (Oct 28, 2026). Continued decline would show Life Sciences pillar weakening despite ArisGlobal deal.
UK CMA and Turkey antitrust probe outcomes on SOLIDWORKS distribution through 2026. Forced channel restructuring would pressure Mainstream segment revenue.

  • Leadership concentration after Bernard Charlès's Feb 2026 exit leaves Pascal Daloz as sole CEO and chairman. Severity: low
  • Siemens leads Gen AI PLM narrative via Teamcenter Copilot, pressuring Dassault's AI positioning. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Dassault Systèmes profitable?
Yes. FY2025 revenue reached €6.24 billion with a 32.0% operating margin and EPS of €1.31, up 7%, as reported February 11, 2026. Q2 2026 margin was 30% on €1,556 million revenue, with FY2026 guidance of €6,296-6,416 million and 32.2-32.6% margin.
Could AI replace Dassault Systèmes?
Unlikely. Its core products, CATIA for aerospace certification and Medidata for FDA-regulated clinical trials, require validated, liability-bound systems generalist AI cannot ship. Instead Dassault is layering AI on top, launching Virtual Companions (Aura, Leo, Marie) in February 2026 and Medidata Plus in July 2026.
Who owns Dassault Systèmes?
The Dassault family controls it via Groupe Industriel Marcel Dassault (GIMD), holding about 40.6-40.7% of share capital as of June 19, 2026, with higher voting rights. Co-founder Charles Edelstenne personally holds roughly 6.09%. CEO Pascal Daloz has led since January 1, 2024.
Is Siemens beating Dassault Systèmes in PLM software?
Analyst firm ABI Research ranked Siemens the top PLM leader for large discrete manufacturers on July 24, 2025, ahead of PTC and third-ranked Dassault Systèmes, crediting Siemens with an 'industry-leading Gen AI position' via Teamcenter Copilot versus Dassault's newer AI push.
Is Dassault Systèmes doing layoffs in 2026?
No mass layoffs are reported. Headcount is roughly flat to slightly declining, cited at about 25,000 to 27,000 depending on source as of July 3, 2026, with Crustdata scoring hiring momentum a modest 15/100 and only 54 open roles.
What is the ArisGlobal deal with Dassault Systèmes?
On July 23, 2026, Dassault Systèmes agreed to acquire life-sciences compliance platform ArisGlobal from Nordic Capital for up to $2 billion. ArisGlobal brings an expected $175 million in 2026 revenue, 200+ customers, and 97%+ gross retention, aimed at offsetting Medidata's H1 2026 revenue decline.
