The call

Diligent's hospital delivery business works and generates real revenue, but it sold for a fraction of what it raised, and now its future rides on whether Serve Robotics keeps funding healthcare or lets it wind down.

Diligent Robotics makes robots called Moxi that deliver supplies inside hospitals. The company built a real business with a few thousand deliveries across 25 to 30 hospitals, but it couldn't grow fast enough on its own, so Serve Robotics bought it for about $29 million after Diligent had raised over $75 million. The main problem is that Diligent faces two threats: Aethon has been selling hospital robots for 20 years and has over 100 hospital customers already, and general-purpose robot technology built by Nvidia and others could let many companies make hospital robots instead of just Diligent. The one thing that matters now is whether Moxi 2.0, the next version coming in early 2026, can actually work well enough in hospitals and whether Serve will keep spending money to support it.

Why
01
AI pressure: Nvidia GR00T/Isaac foundation models and humanoid vendors like Figure, Agility. Moxi 2.0 runs on the same Nvidia Thor stack sold to every robot maker, so Diligent's tech edge shrinks as generalist models get hospital-ready. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Aethon (ST Engineering), 100+ hospital TUG robot deployments. Aethon has 20+ years and more hospitals live, and nothing stops it from bolting Nvidia's same AI stack onto TUG robots. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 1.25M+ real hospital deliveries of training data plus workflow integrations at 25 to 30 hospitals that are slow to rip out.

Key numbers
  • Sold to Serve Robotics for ~$29M common stock value (2026-01-20)
  • Raised $75M-$126M in venture funding before sale (2026-06-20)
  • Headcount fell from 253 peak to ~163-166 by mid-2026 (2026-06-20)
Named risks
  • Fire-sale acquisition ($29M vs $75-126M raised) suggests common equity likely underwater. Severity: high
  • Core AI stack built on Nvidia Thor, available to all competitors, limiting proprietary moat. Severity: high
  • Moxi 2.0's 15+ robots-per-site density target for H1 2026 is unproven at scale. Severity: medium
  • Parent Serve Robotics is a cash-burning, pre-profit public company as of 2026-07-10. Severity: medium
  • Established incumbent Aethon has 4x the hospital footprint with no structural barrier to AI modernization. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Diligent Robotics still an independent company?
No. Diligent Robotics was acquired by Serve Robotics (Nasdaq: SERV), announced January 20, 2026, with the deal closing by February 25, 2026. The transaction valued Diligent's common stock at approximately $29 million, well below the $75-126 million it had previously raised in venture funding.
Is Diligent Robotics profitable?
No independently audited figures exist. Based on Serve Robotics' disclosed range of $200,000-$400,000 in annual sales per hospital site across 25-30 deployed hospitals as of January 20, 2026, estimated run-rate revenue is roughly $5-12 million, with no profitability claimed.
Who is Diligent Robotics' biggest competitor?
Aethon, maker of the TUG autonomous mobile robot, is the dominant incumbent with 100+ hospital deployments and over 20 years in the market as of mid-2026, compared to Diligent's 25-30 hospital systems reported January 20, 2026.
Could AI replace Diligent Robotics' Moxi robot?
Moxi itself runs on Nvidia's Thor compute and Isaac AI stack, the same platform available to rival vendors. Moxi 2.0, unveiled October 28, 2025, aims to fend off commoditization from general-purpose robot foundation models by leveraging a proprietary 1.25 million-delivery dataset.
Who owns Diligent Robotics now?
Serve Robotics (Nasdaq: SERV), an Nvidia- and Uber-backed sidewalk delivery robot company that went public via reverse merger in April 2024, acquired Diligent Robotics in a deal announced January 20, 2026 and closed by February 25, 2026.
What is Moxi 2.0 and when is it deploying in hospitals?
Moxi 2.0 is Diligent Robotics' next-generation hospital logistics robot, unveiled October 28, 2025, built on Nvidia Thor compute with a proprietary robot foundation model. It targets 15+ robots per hospital site, with first deployments planned for the first half of 2026.
