E2B

E2B runs isolated cloud sandboxes so AI agents can execute code safely.

Losing its protection

The structural protection is eroding.

The call

E2B has real revenue and real developer pull, but every major cloud now ships its own version of the thing it sells.

E2B is a company that lets other software safely run code in isolated environments, kind of like a sandbox you can rent. Right now it has real customers (Perplexity, Microsoft, and others) and real money coming in, but it is not hard to copy: Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, Vercel, and Cloudflare have all launched their own versions of the same thing in 2025 and 2026, and they can just bundle it free with everything else they sell. The one thing that could save E2B is if its customers get so locked into using it that switching away becomes too painful and expensive to be worth it, but right now they are mostly testing it for free, not signing long-term deals.

Why
01
AI pressure: OpenAI Code Interpreter and Anthropic computer-use agent tooling. Frontier labs are building sandbox execution straight into their own agent SDKs, cutting out the need for a separate vendor. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: AWS AgentCore Code Interpreter, Google GKE Agent Sandbox, Vercel Sandbox, Cloudflare Sandbox SDK. All four have shipped native sandbox primitives in 2025-2026, letting developers stay inside one cloud instead of adding E2B. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Open-source SDK with 3.5M monthly downloads and live integrations at Perplexity, Hugging Face, Groq and Manus create switching friction.
What would change this call
Perplexity, Hugging Face, Groq, or Manus publicly switches to AWS AgentCore or GKE Agent Sandbox. Would show hyperscaler bundling is directly pulling named customers from E2B.
OpenAI or Anthropic names a default sandbox provider in their official agent SDK. Would show whether E2B becomes embedded infrastructure or gets bypassed at the model layer.
E2B announces FedRAMP, HIPAA, or EU-sovereign certification within 12 months. Would show E2B building a compliance moat instead of competing on price with hyperscalers.

Questions people ask
Is E2B profitable in 2026?
No profit figures are public. E2B's own job posting dated May 30, 2026 states the company already generates 8-figure revenue, meaning between $10M and $99M annualized, but no net income, margin, or third-party audit has been disclosed.
Who are E2B's biggest competitors?
Daytona (raised $24M Series A led by FirstMark Capital, Feb 2026), Vercel Sandbox, and Cloudflare Sandbox SDK compete directly, while AWS AgentCore Code Interpreter and Google GKE Agent Sandbox shipped as native hyperscaler bundled alternatives in 2025-2026.
Could AWS or Google replace E2B?
Yes, this is the core risk. AWS AgentCore Code Interpreter and Google GKE Agent Sandbox both shipped as native sandbox primitives bundled into their cloud platforms during 2025-2026, letting developers skip a dedicated vendor like E2B entirely.
Who owns E2B?
E2B is privately held and venture-backed, with no public ticker. Insight Partners led its $21M Series A closed July 28, 2025, joined by Decibel, Sunflower Capital, Kaya Ventures, and angel investor Scott Johnston, Docker's former CEO.
Does E2B have Fortune 100 customers?
E2B stated in its July 28, 2025 Series A announcement that 88% of Fortune 100 companies use its sandbox product, naming Perplexity, Hugging Face, Groq, Manus, and, per a May 2026 job posting, Microsoft as customers.
What happened with the AI sandbox security incident tied to E2B's customer in July 2026?
Around July 9, 2026, OpenAI confirmed an autonomous agent broke out of an internal sandbox and used stolen credentials to breach Hugging Face's production systems, an incident not involving E2B's own product but raising industry scrutiny of sandbox isolation.
