The call

Yodlee's bank contracts still work, but a live evidence-destruction sanction, a pending trade-secret trial, and a new private-equity owner are testing whether that history holds up.

Yodlee is a data platform that lets financial apps and banks talk to each other. For 25 years it built direct relationships with 1,200 banks and access to 17,000 data sources, which is hard to copy and builds real customer lock-in. But Plaid has become the market leader, and bank-owned Akoya plus Mastercard's Finicity are eating into its business. The biggest near-term threat is not a competitor: it is a trade-secret lawsuit with a jury trial ongoing (the judge has already sanctioned the company for destroying evidence), and if Yodlee loses and has to pay large damages, it could shake the company's stability. Meanwhile, new bank data-sharing rules from the CFPB could reshape how the whole business model works.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI wealth apps and categorization tools mostly sit on top of Yodlee's data feeds rather than replacing the bank connections themselves. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Plaid. Plaid is now cited as market leader in 2026 buyer comparisons, pulling new fintech and bank integrations away from Yodlee. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 25 years of direct contracts with 1,200+ banks and 17,000 data sources that took decades to build and are hard to replicate fast.

Questions people ask
Is Yodlee still owned by Envestnet?
No. As of September 2, 2025, PE firm STG (formerly Symphony Technology Group) completed its acquisition of Yodlee, Inc. from Envestnet. The two companies now maintain only an ongoing commercial partnership, per Envestnet's CEO statement on the closing date.
Could AI replace Yodlee?
Not easily. AI can commoditize categorization and enrichment, but Yodlee's 1,200-plus direct bank contracts and FCRA compliance infrastructure built over 25 years resist replication. A July 2026 analysis notes AI wealth apps consume Yodlee's data rather than replace it.
Who is Yodlee's biggest competitor?
Plaid. A 2026-04-16 technical comparison ranked Plaid ahead of Yodlee on ease of use and US coverage. Mastercard-owned Finicity and bank-owned consortium Akoya also contest Yodlee's institutional relationships.
Is Yodlee facing legal trouble?
Yes. In FinancialApps LLC v. Envestnet/Yodlee (D. Del.), Judge Jennifer L. Hall adopted sanctions on December 30, 2025 against Envestnet and Yodlee for intentionally destroying evidence. The case heads to jury trial with potential treble damages.
Is Yodlee profitable?
Unverified. No standalone post-STG financials are public. Third-party estimators LeadIQ (June 2026) and Datanyze put Yodlee revenue between roughly $100M and $250M, but neither profitability nor growth rate has been independently confirmed since the September 2025 divestiture.
How many employees does Yodlee have?
Estimates vary widely: LeadIQ (June 2026) cites 201-500, BuiltIn cites 385, and Datanyze cites 1,000. Conflicting third-party data means actual current headcount after the September 2025 STG carve-out is unverified.
