The call

Eruditus turned profitable and keeps its university roster, but growth has stalled and the universities it depends on are starting to sell direct.

Eruditus makes money by licensing famous university names and putting their courses online for working professionals. Right now, the hard part is not really hard anymore: top universities like Harvard and Stanford are building their own online programs instead of paying Eruditus to do it, and artificial intelligence can now handle a lot of the teaching and grading work that made Eruditus valuable. The one thing that could turn this around is if Eruditus can prove its enterprise software business (selling tools directly to companies) grows as fast as the company claims and if major universities choose to keep working with Eruditus instead of going it alone.

Why
01
AI pressure: Generic AI tutors and content generators (ChatGPT, Coursera Coach). AI cuts the cost of course creation, grading, and tutoring, the exact layer Eruditus charges universities to run. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Harvard Online, Stanford Online, MIT xPRO insourcing digital exec-ed. Top universities are building their own online arms, cutting out the middleman that pays Eruditus a cut. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Multi-year contracts with 80+ universities and enterprise ties create switching friction, but none of it is exclusive.
What would change this call
Harvard, MIT, or Wharton reduces or ends its Eruditus partnership to run programs in-house. Would show university disintermediation is materializing, eroding Eruditus's core moat.
FY25 revenue growth figure released (target ~34% to Rs 5,000 crore). Would show whether deceleration below 12% growth is reversing or continuing.
Next equity round priced above or below the $3.1 to 3.2B Series F valuation. Would show whether investors see renewed growth or a stalling valuation.

Could AI replace Eruditus?
Eruditus itself deploys AI tutors and live AI grading simulations (announced May 2026) to cut delivery costs, but its core value, licensed credentials from 80-plus universities like Harvard and MIT, cannot be replicated by AI since the credential belongs to partner universities, not Eruditus.
