The call

F&F profits well today on licensed MLB and Discovery brands, but its future hinges on contract renewals and China's mood, not on anything F&F itself owns outright.

F&F Co. makes and sells clothes and gear for baseball fans and outdoor enthusiasts across Asia, mainly through deals to use the MLB and Discovery brand names. The business works because F&F has the exclusive right to sell these brands in Asia, but that right is rented, not owned. If MLB or Discovery decide not to renew the contract, or choose a different partner, F&F loses its main source of profit. Right now, China accounts for more than four out of every ten dollars the company makes, while the home Korea market keeps getting smaller. This heavy dependence on China and on brand licenses that could disappear would change the story if either one fell apart.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI trend-forecasting tools could speed rivals' design cycles, but no AI product is currently eating F&F's licensed retail business. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: MLB Properties / Warner Bros. Discovery. F&F's whole business rests on brand owners renewing its license instead of handing MLB or Discovery Expedition distribution to someone else in Asia. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Long-running exclusive license plus 1,078+ MLB stores in China give F&F retail scale a new licensee couldn't quickly replicate.

Questions people ask
Is F&F Co. profitable in 2026?
Yes. F&F posted Q1 2026 net income of ₩197.6 billion, up 139.3% year on year, as of March 31, 2026. FY2025 net income was ₩402.7 billion, up 13.1% YoY, with revenue of ₩1.934 trillion and a roughly 24% operating margin.
Who owns F&F Co., Ltd.?
F&F Co. is publicly listed on the KRX (383220) but founder-controlled. Its listed parent F&F Holdings owns about 34% of F&F Co., and Chairman Kim Chang-soo holds roughly 62.8% of F&F Holdings, per data as of January 9, 2026.
Who is F&F's biggest competitor?
In Korea's outdoor apparel market, The North Face (via Youngone/Goldwin licensing) is the sales leader, with F&F's Discovery Expedition ranked third behind National Geographic Apparel as of 2022. In China, F&F's MLB brand competes with peers like Misto Holdings' Fila.
Could AI replace F&F's core business?
Unlikely. F&F's moat is exclusive Asia licenses for MLB and Discovery Expedition plus 1,000+ physical stores in China, none replicable by AI. AI mainly threatens marketing photography workflows; Korean startup Flipzon claims 70% photoshoot cost cuts using AI imagery as of December 2025.
Is F&F's growth dependent on China?
Heavily so. China's share of F&F's total revenue rose from 37.7% to 42.3% by Q1 2026 (March 31, 2026), with China Q1 revenue up 17.2% YoY to ₩303 billion, while South Korea domestic revenue fell 8.33% in 2025.
What is happening with F&F and TaylorMade?
Unresolved as of mid-2026. F&F invested about ₩553.7 billion in TaylorMade in 2021. Reports flip-flopped between F&F exiting for over ₩1 trillion profit (January 30, 2026) and raising its acquisition bid to ₩4 trillion (April 27, 2026) amid a Centroid-led sale dispute.
