The call

Galileo AI no longer exists as a company; its technology lives on as Google Stitch, competing against tools like Claude Design.

Galileo AI made software tools powered by artificial intelligence to help designers work faster. The original company had nothing stopping Google or other big tech firms from copying or building the same thing themselves, so Google simply bought the team and relaunched the product as Google Stitch. What matters now is whether Google Stitch can stay ahead when Anthropic launches Claude Design in April 2026, because if Stitch is just a demonstration of what an AI model can do (rather than something locked into Google's systems), it will face the same risk that killed the original Galileo.

Why
01
AI pressure: Anthropic Claude Design. Claude Design shipped a rival AI UI generator a month after Stitch launched, matching the same demo capability. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Google (Alphabet). Google bought Galileo outright in May 2025 and folded the team and product into Stitch, ending it as a separate company. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. None on its own; whatever protection exists now comes from sitting inside Google Labs and Gemini distribution.
What would change this call
Google Labs graduates Stitch to a durable, standalone product line or sunsets it. Shows whether the acquired technology has lasting priority inside Google or was absorbed and shelved.
Claude Design (launched April 2026) gains adoption or feature parity vs Stitch over the next year. Indicates whether Stitch's edge was durable or just a temporary best demo of a common capability.
Any reporting on user migration from Stitch to rival AI design tools like v0, Bolt.new, or Lovable. Would show whether Google's version is retaining the design-tool audience Galileo originally built.

Named risks
  • Original Galileo AI entity no longer exists independently; cannot be evaluated as a standalone bet. Severity: high
  • Successor Stitch may be just a best-current-demo capability replicable by any frontier lab, as Claude Design showed in April 2026. Severity: high
  • Brand confusion with unrelated observability company Galileo, acquired by Cisco in May 2026. Severity: medium
  • No disclosed standalone revenue or headcount figures exist to verify pre-acquisition traction claims. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Galileo AI still an independent company in 2026?
No. Google acquired Galileo AI on May 20, 2025 and folded it into Google Labs the same day, relaunching its text-to-UI technology as Google Stitch. The standalone usegalileo.ai product was shut down with a roughly 30-day migration window, and the site now redirects to Stitch.
Who owns Galileo AI now?
Galileo AI is wholly owned by Google (Alphabet) as of May 20, 2025, when Google acquired the startup and rebuilt its text-to-UI capability as Gemini-powered Google Stitch inside Google Labs. There is no independent Galileo AI cap table or equity remaining.
Did AI replace Galileo AI's own product?
Effectively yes. Galileo AI's core offering, generating UI mockups from text prompts, was itself absorbed into Google's Gemini-powered Stitch on May 20, 2025, and Anthropic shipped a rival called Claude Design on April 17, 2026, showing the capability is replicable by any frontier lab.
What was Galileo AI's biggest competitor?
Before its 2025 acquisition, Galileo AI competed with Uizard, Banani, UX Pilot, Lovable, v0 and Bolt.new, plus incumbent Figma, which held over 80% of the professional UI design market as of March 2026. Its successor, Google Stitch, now directly pressures Figma's share.
Is Galileo AI (the design tool) the same as the Galileo acquired by Cisco?
No. Those are two unrelated companies sharing a name. The design-tool Galileo AI (usegalileo.ai) was acquired by Google on May 20, 2025. A separate AI-observability company, Galileo (galileo.ai, founded 2021), was acquired by Cisco, announced April 9, 2026 and closed May 22, 2026.
How much funding did Galileo AI raise before being acquired?
Galileo AI raised a $400,000 pre-seed round led by South Park Commons in October 2022, followed by a $4.4 million seed round led by Khosla Ventures announced alongside its public beta launch in February 2024, before Google acquired the company on May 20, 2025.
