The call

Gaotu is growing again after near collapse, but it trails TAL on AI and shares its only real protection, the China license, with bigger rivals.

Gaotu teaches students online through tutors and courses, mostly in China. The company is real and making more money each year, but it is easy to replace because tutoring is something that AI can do well. Right now, bigger competitors like TAL and New Oriental are moving faster with AI tools like MathGPT, while Gaotu is only using AI internally. The company does have some protection from Chinese rules that block foreign AI companies, but that shield does not stop Chinese competitors or AI from taking over, and Gaotu's few physical learning centers in seven cities are expensive to build and do not give it a real advantage. What matters most is whether Gaotu can ship its own real AI product soon, whether its growth slows down in the coming quarter, or whether China changes the rules for tutoring companies.

Why
01
AI pressure: TAL Education's MathGPT. TAL already shipped a customer-facing AI tutor; Gaotu has only internal AI tools, not a named product for students yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: TAL Education Group and New Oriental Education & Technology Group. Both peers are bigger, better funded, and ahead on visible AI products under the same regulatory rules Gaotu operates under. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. China's tutoring license and offline centers in 7 cities, but TAL and New Oriental hold the same license with more scale.
