The call

Gigamon still leads a growing market with deep customer lock-in, but its share keeps shrinking and its private equity owners have no public exit path.

Gigamon makes physical equipment that sits inside computer networks to capture and decrypt data so companies can see what traffic is flowing through. It is hard to copy because it has years of relationships with big government and Fortune 100 clients and they have invested in specialized hardware that works well. But competitors like Keysight and Arista are stealing customers, and cloud-based alternatives from companies like Cribl and Kentik are taking share even though the whole market is growing. The one thing that could change everything is who owns the company: private equity investors have owned it since 2017, and they typically force a sale or public offering within a few years, which could mean new leadership, new strategy, or both.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI models can't replace physical taps or inline decryption; Gigamon adds AI Traffic Intelligence and Copilot as features, not a threat vector. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Keysight (Vision Series) and Arista Networks (Big Switch). Gigamon's deep observability share dropped from 61% to 52% to 51% in three straight reports even as the market grew 18%. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Physical tap infrastructure, inline decryption, and lock-in across federal agencies, top banks, and mobile carriers make ripping Gigamon out costly.
What would change this call
Next 650 Group or Frost & Sullivan deep-observability market-share report (expected late 2026). Shows whether Gigamon's share stabilizes or keeps falling toward the low 40s.
Public IPO filing, sale announcement, or dividend recap involving Elliott, QIA, or Siris Capital. Would reveal the PE owners' exit path and terms offered to equity.
Cisco launches a standalone traffic-visibility or packet-broker product outside its Splunk partnership. Would show Cisco shifting from partner to direct competitor against Gigamon.

Questions people ask
Is Gigamon profitable in 2026?
Gigamon has not disclosed financials since going private in December 2017. Its last public-company revenue figure was $79.2M in Q3 2017, down 5.1% year-over-year. As a PE-owned firm since 2017, no audited profitability figures are publicly available as of July 2026.
Who owns Gigamon?
Gigamon has been privately held since Elliott Management and the Qatar Investment Authority completed a ~$1.6 billion buyout on December 27, 2017. Private-equity firm Siris added a significant strategic investment in December 2023, with terms undisclosed.
Is Gigamon losing market share?
Yes. Gigamon's own cited deep-observability market share fell across three consecutive reports: 61% in 2023/2024, 52% in September 2025, and 51% in March 2026, per Frost & Sullivan and 650 Group data cited by Gigamon.
Could AI replace Gigamon's product?
No. Gigamon's core business is physical and inline network traffic capture (TAPs, packet brokers, decryption), which AI models cannot replicate. Instead Gigamon added AI as a feature layer, launching AI Traffic Intelligence and GigaVUE-FM Copilot in June and July 2025.
Who are Gigamon's biggest competitors?
Named competitors include Keysight Technologies (via its Ixia-derived Vision Series), Arista Networks (via its Big Switch Networks acquisition), plus cloud-native rivals Cribl and Kentik. Cisco is currently a partner, not a direct competitor, per a June 2026 Splunk Federated Search integration.
Will Gigamon go public again?
No confirmed IPO or sale process was public as of July 2026. Gigamon has been PE-owned since its December 2017 Elliott/QIA buyout, with Siris adding a strategic investment in December 2023, but no disclosed liquidity path exists yet.
