The call

Glint sits inside Microsoft's own house, cheap and hard to dislodge, but its biggest risk is Microsoft quietly folding it into a generic Viva feature rather than any outside AI rival.

Glint helps companies survey and understand their employees through Microsoft Teams and Outlook. It's hard to replace right now because it's built into Microsoft's software that millions of companies already use, costs very little per person compared to standalone rivals, and has collected data from millions of workers across large public companies. The big risk is that Microsoft keeps combining, killing, and reorganizing its own products, so Glint could lose its separate identity, get merged into other Microsoft tools, or become just another feature with no clear future, which matters more than any outside competitor.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Copilot inside Viva Insights. Copilot's comment summarization is now standard across Viva, so Glint's AI features stop being special and start being just another Viva tool. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft itself, via Viva suite consolidation. Microsoft already killed Viva Topics and Viva Goals, then merged Glint with Viva Pulse in October 2025, showing a pattern of folding products together. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Native Microsoft 365 bundling at roughly $2 per user per month plus benchmark data from 3 million employees across 226 public companies.
What would change this call
Microsoft announces Glint folded into Viva Insights as a feature, not a standalone product. Shows Glint losing distinct product identity and dedicated roadmap.
Continuous Employee Engagement with Workplace Metrics reaches GA by Q4 2026. Shows Microsoft investing to expand Glint's scope rather than absorb it.
Another Viva suite product (like Viva Topics or Goals) is killed or merged in 2026. Would signal Glint faces similar consolidation risk inside Microsoft.

  • 100% of legacy Glint customers migrated to Viva Glint (2025-12-19)
  • 5,000 Microsoft managers used Copilot in Glint (2026-06-17)
Named risks
  • Product identity dissolution as Glint is folded deeper into Viva Insights/Copilot roadmap. Severity: high
  • Three ownership/structural changes in seven years signal ongoing reorg instability. Severity: high
  • No standalone financial or headcount disclosure makes health hard to verify independently. Severity: medium
  • AI comment-summarization becoming table stakes reduces differentiation of Copilot feature. Severity: medium
  • Competitive marketing against Microsoft 365 lock-in could affect non-captive renewal decisions. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Glint still an independent company or is it owned by Microsoft?
Glint is fully owned by Microsoft. LinkedIn acquired Glint Inc. in October 2018 for a reported $400 to 505 million, then Microsoft moved it into the Viva suite starting February 2022, with migration to Viva Glint completed by July 2023 and 100% customer migration confirmed by December 2025.
Could AI replace Glint's survey analysis function?
AI (Copilot in Viva Glint) already automates much of the manual comment-coding work: Microsoft says Copilot summarized 14,000 employee comments for Phillips 66 in 15 seconds as of March 2025. Glint's defense is proprietary longitudinal benchmark data and Microsoft 365 distribution lock-in, not the AI feature itself.
Who is Glint's biggest competitor?
Named rivals include Culture Amp, Qualtrics EmployeeXM, Workday Peakon, Lattice, 15Five, Officevibe and CultureMonkey, per a May 2026 comparison roundup. Culture Amp is frequently cited as category leader for survey depth and launched its own AI Coach feature in 2025, competing directly for non-Microsoft-shop customers.
Is Glint a safe product to build an HR strategy around, or is it being deprecated?
Glint has changed hands three times in seven years (independent, then LinkedIn 2018, then Viva 2023, then merged with Viva Pulse into one bundled offering in October 2025), signaling ongoing reorg and consolidation risk even though 100% of legacy customers had migrated to Viva Glint by December 2025.
How much does Viva Glint cost compared to standalone engagement tools?
Microsoft prices Viva Glint at roughly $2.00 per user per month with a 50 to 100 seat minimum, bundled into Microsoft 365 licensing, which competitor marketing sites describe as several times cheaper than standalone engagement-survey tools, per Microsoft's own pricing page (n.d., cited 2026).
What AI features has Glint shipped and when?
Copilot in Viva Glint entered private preview in January 2024 and reached general availability in November 2024, using GPT-4 Turbo for comment summarization; by April 2025 it could summarize up to 8,000 comments, later expanding to Claude and xAI model options.
