The call

Greenhouse holds its lead through entrenched workflows and data, while SAP's suite bundling and AI recruiting agents test whether that lead holds.

Greenhouse sells recruiting and hiring software to about 7,500 companies. It is hard to replace because companies build their entire hiring process into it over years, it handles legal compliance, and it knows patterns from millions of past hires. But SAP just bought SmartRecruiters in September 2025 and is bundling it with its huge HR suite to sell to big companies for less money, and Workday offers something similar. The company has not grown its staff since 2023, which suggests it may have stopped growing fast. The one thing that could change everything is whether SAP can actually win recruiting deals away from Greenhouse by offering the whole package, or whether Greenhouse stays the specialist that companies choose over a bundle.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI recruiting agents such as Mercor and Eightfold AI that automate sourcing and screening. These tools aim to cut recruiter headcount and per-seat software spend, the same spend Greenhouse bills for. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: SAP, via its September 2025 purchase of SmartRecruiters, plus Workday's bundled recruiting suite. SAP can now sell recruiting as part of a larger HR suite, pressuring Greenhouse's standalone renewals. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Deep workflow lock-in across 7,500+ customers, years of hiring data, and compliance integrations that are costly to rip out.
What would change this call
Reports of SAP bundling SmartRecruiters into HCM deals and naming enterprise wins. Would show suite bundling is directly displacing Greenhouse renewals.
TPG announces sale, recapitalization, or IPO filing for Greenhouse. Would reveal actual exit valuation versus 2021's $820M mark.
Verified ARR disclosure via funding, credit filing, or press release. Would resolve whether growth is closer to $200M or $400M and if it's still expanding.

Questions people ask
Is Greenhouse profitable in 2026?
Greenhouse does not disclose audited financials. Third party estimates from Latka and ZoomInfo put ARR near 200 million dollars as of 2023 to 2024, with no public profitability figures. TPG and The Rise Fund became majority owners in January 2021 at an 820 million dollar valuation, and no new funding has been raised since.
Could AI replace Greenhouse's applicant tracking system?
Not easily. Greenhouse's structured hiring workflows, compliance tooling like ISO IEC 42001 certification, integration marketplace, and historical scorecard data create switching costs. Instead, Greenhouse is layering AI features like Real Talent fraud detection and Notetaker transcription onto its core ATS, ranking number 1 in G2's Summer 2026 report as of June 2026.
Who owns Greenhouse Software?
TPG Growth and The Rise Fund became majority investors in Greenhouse on January 14, 2021, in a deal reported around 500 million dollars that valued the company at approximately 820 million dollars. No ownership change, IPO, or resale has been reported since, as of mid 2026.
Is Greenhouse losing customers to SAP's SmartRecruiters?
No direct evidence of customer loss has been reported yet. SAP closed its acquisition of SmartRecruiters in September 2025, positioning it as a suite bundled enterprise rival, but as of the SmartRecruiters vs Greenhouse guide published May 23, 2026, no material share shift away from Greenhouse has been documented.
What is Greenhouse's biggest competitor?
Ashby is cited as an analytics forward challenger popular with high growth tech companies, while SmartRecruiters, acquired by SAP in September 2025, is positioned as the enterprise SAP ecosystem alternative. Workday Recruiting also competes via bundled HCM suite sales as of 2026.
How many customers does Greenhouse have in 2026?
Greenhouse states it serves more than 7,500 companies as of its May 27, 2026 Ezra AI Labs acquisition announcement, including HubSpot, Anthropic, Gong, Coinbase, and the NFL. This is a vendor claimed figure, up from over 4,000 businesses cited at the January 2021 TPG deal.
