The call

Gymshark keeps growing sales every year but its profit has been shrinking for two years straight as Vuori and Alo crowd the same shelf space.

Gymshark sells workout clothes and gear direct to consumers through its own stores, website, and wholesale partnerships like Dick's Sporting Goods, backed by a loyal community of 10 million followers. The company is being squeezed by newer rivals like Vuori and Alo Yoga who offer similar products, and its profits have dropped 47% in two years even though sales grew, showing it is losing money on each sale. The key question is whether Gymshark can stop the profit slide in the next financial results (expected mid-2027) or whether the brand loyalty that built the business can no longer protect it from cheaper or trendier competitors.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI tools help Gymshark's own design and marketing more than they threaten it; no AI product currently makes gym clothes. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Vuori, Alo Yoga, Alphalete, and Lululemon. Rivals are squeezing margins even as revenue grows: pre-tax profit fell from £13.1m to £7.0m in two years while sales kept climbing. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A 10 million plus community and owned retail and wholesale relationships that took 13 years to build and are slow to copy.

Questions people ask
Is Gymshark profitable in 2025?
Yes but shrinking. Gymshark's FY2025 pre-tax profit fell 41% to £7.0m (year ended July 31, 2025) from £11.9m in FY2024, even as revenue grew 6.4% to £646-647m, per Companies House filings reported March 2026.
Who owns Gymshark?
Founder Ben Francis holds over 70% of Gymshark following a 2020 deal in which US firm General Atlantic bought a 21% minority stake for £275 million, valuing the company at $1.3 billion. As of July 2026, Francis is in talks to buy back part of General Atlantic's stake.
Is Gymshark planning an IPO?
No imminent IPO. Founder Ben Francis stated in July 2026 that Gymshark has explored the possibility but is not planning a public listing anytime soon, instead pursuing talks to buy back part of General Atlantic's 21% stake.
Could AI replace Gymshark?
Unlikely to replace the core business. Gymshark is a physical apparel brand whose moat is community, retail distribution (Dick's Sporting Goods, October 2025) and influencer relationships. AI aids marketing measurement and product-selection tools, per its 2023 Google Cloud Vertex AI deployment, but doesn't replace the product.
Who is Gymshark's biggest competitor?
Gymshark competes most directly with Vuori, Alo Yoga and Alphalete for younger, price-conscious activewear shoppers, while Nike, Adidas and Lululemon remain larger incumbents. Third-party SimilarWeb data from December 2024 found Vuori, Alo Yoga and Gymshark gaining traffic share from Lululemon.
Is Gymshark being sued?
Yes. A proposed class action (Lupea v. Gymshark USA, Inc.) was filed June 16, 2026 in the Southern District of New York alleging undisclosed paid-influencer marketing, part of a wider wave also hitting Alo Yoga and Revolve. It remains unresolved as of July 2026.
