The call

HLA still leads China menswear on scale and stores, but its main brand is shrinking while Adidas licensing and early overseas stores carry group growth.

Heilan Home runs the largest network of men's clothing stores in China, with over 7,000 locations making clothes and accessories under its own brand, plus it sells Adidas gear in outlets. The company makes good money right now (about 10 cents profit on every dollar of sales), but its main HLA-branded stores lost 4% in sales over the past nine months, hidden by profits from selling Adidas products and smaller brands. The real question is whether Heilan can reverse its core business decline before Uniqlo and Chinese online clothing brands take more customers away, and whether the company can grow outside China to replace shrinking home sales.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-driven fast-fashion apps and marketplaces (Shein, Taobao recommendation engines). AI-personalized online fast fashion pulls younger shoppers away from HLA's physical menswear stores. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Uniqlo/Fast Retailing. Uniqlo keeps opening stores in China's biggest cities, taking casualwear shoppers HLA once counted on. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. A 7,209-store franchise network with #1 market share and an Adidas outlet license that keeps cash flowing.
What would change this call
HLA's quarterly core-brand revenue growth turns positive for two straight quarters. Shows the main brand has stopped losing ground to Uniqlo and rivals.
HLA's non-returnable inventory ratio (31% in H1 2025) rises or triggers a write-down. Would show unsold stock piling up faster than it can be cleared.
HLA's Hong Kong IPO completes and proceeds fund an overseas brand acquisition. Would show the company converting its distribution moat into new growth abroad.

Questions people ask
Is Heilan Home profitable in 2026?
Yes. HLA Group reported FY2025 net income of RMB 2.17 billion (up 0.34% y/y) on revenue of RMB 21.63 billion, and Q1 2026 showed revenue up 7.66% y/y with net profit up 1.51% y/y, per stockanalysis.com and Quartr data.
Who owns Heilan Home and is it publicly traded?
Heilan Home trades on the Shanghai Stock Exchange as HLA Group Corp., Ltd. (600398). Tencent became a strategic minority investor, putting in $391.23 million on 26 May 2018, per CB Insights.
Is Heilan Home's core menswear brand shrinking?
Yes. The flagship HLA-branded business fell 3.99% y/y to RMB 10.849 billion in the nine months through September 2025, even as group revenue rose slightly on Adidas licensing and sub-brands, per 36kr (Dec 2025).
Could AI replace Heilan Home's business model?
Unlikely to replace its 7,209-store franchise network and Jiangyin logistics hub outright, but weak demand forecasting (non-returnable inventory rose to 31.02% by H1 2025) leaves it exposed to AI-driven forecasting and DTC rivals, per 36kr.
Is Uniqlo beating Heilan Home in China?
Uniqlo/Fast Retailing is aggressively expanding in China's casualwear tier-1/2 cities, contesting HLA's core market even as HLA still holds roughly 5.6% of China menswear share in 2024, more than its next four rivals combined, per Benzinga.
Is Heilan Home listing in Hong Kong?
HLA filed for a Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing in late November 2025 to fund overseas expansion; as of the May 2026 update the filing remained pending, and HKEX eased listing rules in July 2026, potentially easing its path, per AInvest and SCMP.
