The call

Hisense still ships at scale worldwide, but TCL has already passed it in TV share and unresolved US data lawsuits sit over its VIDAA business while Samsung and LG settled theirs.

Hisense makes TVs, refrigerators, and air conditioners sold in over 160 countries, backed by the Chinese government and generating $28.7 billion in annual revenue. It competes mainly against Samsung, LG, and TCL, but TCL now matches or beats Hisense in TV sales using the same low-cost factory approach, so Hisense has no special advantage that TCL cannot copy. The company is also shrinking, with home appliance sales down 7.2 percent and its workforce cut by nearly a third, while it faces unresolved US lawsuits over whether it sent customer data to China (Samsung and LG settled these cases, but Hisense did not), a legal cloud that could scare away American retailers and buyers if the courts rule against it.

Why
01
AI pressure: Google TV and Amazon Fire TV. Google TV and Fire TV's AI content recommendation and ad layers compete directly with Hisense's own VIDAA interface for viewer attention and ad revenue. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: TCL. TCL passed Hisense in global TV revenue share by Q3 2025 (13% vs 10.9%) using the same cost structure and matching specs. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Manufacturing scale, state backing from Qingdao SASAC, and distribution in 160+ countries keep the hardware business running even as margins thin.
What would change this call
Whether Hisense or TCL settles the Texas AG TRO or N.D. Cal. ACR data class action by late 2026. Non-settlement while Samsung/LG settled would signal ongoing US regulatory and reputational risk.

Questions people ask
Is Hisense Group profitable in 2026?
Yes but shrinking. Hisense Home Appliances Group posted FY2025 net profit of RMB 3.19 billion, down 4.82% year over year, with revenue of RMB 87.93 billion down 5.19%, and Q1 2026 revenue fell a further 7.16% YoY, reported June 2026.
Is Hisense losing market share to TCL?
Yes. As of June 2026, Samsung reported Hisense held 10.6% global TV market share versus TCL's 13.3% and LG's 14.8%, placing Hisense fourth, while Samsung marked its 21st consecutive year at number one.
Who owns Hisense Group?
Hisense Group is state-linked: its ultimate beneficial owner is the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the Qingdao Municipal Government, controlling it through an unlisted holding company, per a December 2025 ownership analysis.
Could AI replace what Hisense does?
No, its core is physical TV, appliance, and display manufacturing across 160+ countries that AI cannot substitute. Its one AI-adjacent data business, ACR viewing data, is instead under active US legal attack, including a Texas TRO from December 2025.
Is Hisense facing legal trouble in the US?
Yes. Texas AG Ken Paxton sued Hisense in December 2025 over ACR data collection and won a TRO on December 17, 2025; a separate federal class action was filed May 12, 2026 in N.D. California. Both remained unresolved as of July 2026.
What is Hisense Group's annual revenue?
Hisense's own newsroom stated total group revenue surpassed $28.7 billion USD in 2023, with overseas revenue over $12.2 billion. A separate 2024 figure cites RMB 215.3 billion group revenue with 46.3% from overseas.
