Huasun
Chinese maker of heterojunction (HJT) solar cells and modules, founded 2020 in Anhui.
Huasun leads a real technology niche in solar, but Meyer Burger's collapse shows HJT leadership alone did not save a similar company once Chinese Tier-1 scale and price pressure arrived.
Huasun is a Chinese solar panel manufacturer that has shipped over 16 gigawatts of panels and holds over 300 patents for a newer panel design called HJT technology, which is more efficient than older designs. The problem is that bigger competitors like LONGi and JinkoSolar, which already control most of the world's solar panel market, can switch to making HJT panels whenever they want, and they have the money and factories to do it at lower costs than Huasun can match, just like what happened to Meyer Burger, a similar company that went bankrupt in 2025 despite having better technology. The biggest threat is if LONGi or JinkoSolar decide to start making HJT panels in the next year or two, combined with the U.S. government possibly raising tariffs on Chinese solar panels, which would squeeze Huasun's profits and options at the same time.
US Commerce Department circumvention inquiry (notice July 17, 2026) issues findings. Would show whether Huasun's high-margin US/EU export path stays open or closes.
Huasun files for A-share or H-share IPO at or above its 2023 $1.46B valuation. Would show capital markets still value Huasun's HJT premium as durable.
- 16+ GW cumulative shipments across 80+ countries
- 20 GW production capacity
- Headcount down 16% to 1,032 employees
- A Tier-1 maker like LONGi or Jinko commits multi-GW HJT capacity, ending Huasun's niche technology lead.
- US circumvention inquiry (notice July 17, 2026) plus Section 301/232 tariffs could wall off premium US/EU export markets.
- Zero job postings in 2025 versus 73 in 2024 signals a hiring freeze despite company claims of 5,000+ headcount.
- Global solar oversupply and Chinese TOPCon pricing could compress Huasun's HJT premium, as happened to Meyer Burger.
- Conflicting funding, valuation, and headcount figures across trackers reduce transparency for outside evaluation.
| Rival | Direction | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| LONGi Green Energy | contesting | Controls part of 80%+ Tier-1 global module share; could retool PERC/TOPCon lines to HJT if economics shift |
| JinkoSolar | contesting | Chose TOPCon as cheaper PERC upgrade path, not structural block against HJT, per 2022 to 2026 industry Q&As |
| Trina Solar, JA Solar, Canadian Solar | contesting | Collectively part of Tier-1 group holding over 80% global production as of November 1, 2025 |
| Meyer Burger | gaining on | Meyer Burger entered insolvency and closed its German module plant in 2025, per January 3, 2026 coverage |
- Is Huasun profitable in 2026?
- No audited revenue figures for Huasun have been published as of July 2026. Small-data aggregators show inconsistent, unreliable estimates, and the company relies on private funding (Series C, $274.81M closed November 15, 2023) rather than disclosed profit metrics.
- Could AI replace Huasun's core business?
- No. Huasun's value is physical HJT solar manufacturing across five China fabs (Xuancheng, Hefei, Wuxi, Dali, Yinchuan) with 20 GW capacity as of July 2025. Generative AI can automate back-office tasks but cannot replace ingot, wafer, and cell fabrication.
- Who is Huasun's biggest competitor?
- Tier-1 Chinese giants LONGi, JinkoSolar, Trina, JA Solar, and Canadian Solar, which control over 80% of global module production via PERC/TOPCon and could retool to HJT if economics warrant, per November 2025 competitive analysis.
- Who owns Huasun Energy?
- Huasun is privately held at Series C stage as of April 2026, with CB Insights citing $627.91M raised across six rounds and investors including BOC Financial Assets Investment and Bank of China Asset Management. Its last confirmed round closed November 15, 2023 at $274.81M.
- Is Huasun going public soon?
- No confirmed IPO filing exists as of July 2026. CB Insights lists Huasun as 'Series C, Alive' as of April 4, 2026, even as sector peers like Sigen New Energy and Huadian New Energy completed China/HK listings in 2025 to 2026.
- What is Huasun's market share in HJT solar?
- Huasun states it holds roughly 50% of the global HJT cell and module segment, a company-presented figure from its March 12, 2024 investor materials, alongside over 16 GW of cumulative shipments to 80+ countries as of June 11, 2026.
