The call

iMocha keeps its enterprise customers through embedded workflows and a mature taxonomy, but shrinking headcount and no new funding in 54 months point toward acquisition rather than independent growth.

iMocha makes software that tests whether workers have the skills companies need, and sells it to large employers who plug it into their existing HR systems. Copying iMocha is getting easier: Workday and SAP (the giants that run HR for most big companies) are building their own skill-testing tools directly into their software, which costs them almost nothing to add. At the same time, richer competitors like Eightfold and Gloat have more money to spend and more AI power behind them. The one thing that could save iMocha is if its recent partnerships and analyst praise actually bring back the customers and hiring it lost over the past three years, but its funding drought and shrinking headcount suggest that is not happening yet.

Why
01
AI pressure: Eightfold AI. Eightfold's larger proprietary model (1.6B career profiles) and deeper funding let it outbuild iMocha's skills matching at scale. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Workday (Skills Cloud) and SAP SuccessFactors. Both are adding native skills intelligence into HCM suites customers already pay for, with no barrier stopping them from doing it well. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. A decade-old skills taxonomy and deep workflow integrations create switching friction for existing enterprise customers.

Questions people ask
Is iMocha profitable in 2026?
iMocha said it was profitable and bootstrapped before its January 2022 Series A, reporting 400% growth over the prior two years (company-reported). No audited financials have been released since, and no revenue figures for 2026 have been independently verified.
Has iMocha raised any funding recently?
No. iMocha's last disclosed round was a $14 million Series A led by Eight Roads Ventures on January 27, 2022. As of mid-2026, trackers note 54 months with no new institutional round, alongside a headcount drop to 266 employees by June 2026.
Who is iMocha's biggest competitor?
Eightfold AI and Gloat are iMocha's closest, better-capitalized rivals in skills intelligence. Eightfold reportedly trains on 1.6 billion career profiles (as of January 2026), while Workday and SAP SuccessFactors are also embedding native skills tools into their HCM suites.
Could AI replace iMocha's product?
Partially. iMocha's own core offerings, like MCQ tests and resume-to-skill inference, risk commoditization by general-purpose LLMs embedded directly into ATS and HCM platforms. Its decade-old skills taxonomy and deep integrations with Workday, SAP, and Degreed are harder to replicate quickly.
Who owns iMocha?
iMocha is privately held, founded in January 2015 by CEO Amit D. Mishra and CTO Sujit Karpe. Its investors include Eight Roads Ventures (Series A lead, January 2022), Upekkha, Better Capital, and earlier seed backers Vaibhav Domkundwar and JioGenNext.
Is iMocha growing or shrinking?
Shrinking by headcount and traffic metrics. Crustdata tracked iMocha falling from roughly 459 employees in May 2023 to 296 by November 2024 and 266 by June 2026, with a 7% quarterly web traffic decline as of June 2026, despite recent analyst recognition.
