The call

Info Edge has turned AI into a paid product on top of a recruiter base no rival has matched, while its smaller Shiksha unit shrinks.

Info Edge runs Naukri, India's biggest job-posting and resume-search platform used by over 128,000 paying companies to hire. It is hard to replace because it has spent nearly three decades collecting 115 million Indian resumes in one place, and those resumes keep companies coming back; LinkedIn tried for 15 years in India but never took over the main hiring market. The company has also built AI tools (AI-Rex and Talent Pulse) to help recruiters find people faster, which is working: thousands of companies are paying extra for these AI features. The one thing to watch is whether companies keep paying more for AI features as those tools get better, or whether AI hiring eventually makes job boards less necessary altogether.

Why
01
AI pressure: AI-native recruiting agents that could let employers source candidates directly, bypassing job boards. No AI-native sourcing agent has shipped at scale in India; Naukri built its own agent, AI-Rex, ahead of that risk. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: LinkedIn (Microsoft). LinkedIn runs a competing India platform but stays in white-collar networking, not the bulk SME recruiter market Naukri owns. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. 115 million India resumes plus 128,000+ paying recruiter clients locked into Naukri's database and workflow.
What would change this call
LinkedIn or Indeed launches an India-priced SME recruiter product within a year. Would show incumbents finally targeting Naukri's mass-market recruiter base.
AI-Rex/Talent Pulse paid-conversion and mandate growth in Q2-Q3 FY27 earnings. Shows whether AI monetization keeps offsetting legacy job-posting billing pressure.
Shiksha segment billings trend in the next two quarterly reports. Shows whether the ~22% YoY decline is contained or spreading to core recruitment billings.
