The call

Jamf still runs a large, sticky Apple fleet business, but it is now a private, PE-owned company cutting staff while racing Kandji and Microsoft on AI features.

Jamf sells software that lets companies manage and secure iPhones, iPads, and Macs across their workforce. The company has real staying power because Apple updates its operating system every day, and Jamf's tools work deeper inside the system than competitors can easily copy, plus switching costs are high once a company relies on it. But Microsoft Intune is bundling similar tools into its Office 365 packages to win mixed-device companies, and a smaller rival called Kandji shipped an AI assistant (called Kai) before Jamf got theirs to market, so the edge Jamf once owned on new features is blurring. The one thing that matters most: whether Jamf's new owner (a private equity firm) will invest heavily in AI and sales to fight back, or just squeeze costs to boost near-term profits and then sell the company.

Why
01
AI pressure: Kandji's Kai AI assistant and generative AI writing MDM policies. Kandji's Kai chatbot beat Jamf's AI Assistant to market by two years, and AI can draft basic device policies without a specialist tool. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Microsoft Intune. Intune ships bundled inside Microsoft 365 E3/E5 and now covers Mac well enough that mixed-fleet IT teams pick it to cut vendor count. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. 35 million enrolled Apple devices sit deep inside OS-level enrollment and compliance workflows that are painful to rip out, plus same-day support for new Apple OS releases eight years running.
What would change this call
Jamf's net customer count (78,000 mid-2026) stalls or drops for two straight quarters. Would show Intune or Iru are winning net-new logos, not just competing on features.
A third layoff round at Jamf within 6 months of mid-2026. Would show PE-driven margin pressure is squeezing the AI pivot.
Jamf misses same-day support for a new Apple OS release. Would show the OS-integration moat that justifies its pricing is weakening.

  • New CEO (May 2026) and post-buyout leadership transition add execution uncertainty. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Jamf profitable in 2024?
No. Jamf's FY2024 revenue was $627.4M, up 11.9% YoY, but it posted a net loss of $68.5M for the year, according to financial filings as of mid 2026. Jamf went private in January 2026 and no longer publishes quarterly results.
Who owns Jamf now?
Francisco Partners, a private equity firm, completed a take-private acquisition of Jamf on January 30, 2026, paying $13.05/share for a total enterprise value of about $2.2 billion, roughly 50% below its 2020 IPO valuation of $4.6 billion.
Is Jamf doing layoffs?
Yes. Jamf cut about 166 employees (6% of staff) in January 2024, then cut another ~166 employees (6.4%) in July 2025, mostly in go-to-market and sales roles, redirecting an estimated $11.5-12.5M in severance-linked spend toward AI investment.
Could AI replace Jamf's product?
Unlikely to fully replace it. Jamf's core value is OS-level enforcement (Apple Endpoint Security API access, same-day OS support for 8 straight years), not a chat interface. But rival Iru shipped an AI chatbot ('Kai') in 2024, before Jamf's own AI Assistant reached general availability in April 2026.
Who is Jamf's biggest competitor?
Microsoft Intune, bundled into Microsoft 365 E3/E5, is closing Mac-management gaps and pitching itself as the consolidation choice for mixed-fleet organizations, while Iru (formerly Kandji, rebranded October 2025) is the most direct Apple-focused challenger.
How many customers does Jamf have?
As of June 29, 2026, Jamf serves over 78,000 organizations across 100 countries and manages more than 35 million Apple devices, up from about 47,000 organizations in 2021, per Jamf's own press release.
