The call

JKOPay runs a real, licensed payments business but its parent's unresolved lawsuit and LINE Pay's reach keep it fighting for second place, not first.

JKOPay lets people pay for things with their phone in Taiwan, competing directly against LINE Pay, which is much bigger and built into a popular messaging app that most Taiwanese already use. JKOPay has real licenses and bank connections that make it hard for outside companies like PayPal to just move in, but LINE Pay's huge head start and ability to reach customers through its messaging app make JKOPay the weaker #2 player. The company's parent company is in a messy lawsuit over money and investments, which already scared some stores away from using JKOPay in summer 2025, and if that legal fight flares up again, it could trigger another round of merchants leaving.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. No AI agent or checkout product yet targets Taiwan's wallet market directly; agentic commerce could bypass wallets long term. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: LINE Pay Taiwan. LINE Pay rides Taiwan's dominant messaging app to reach over half the population, squeezing JKOPay into a contested number two spot. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. FSC payments license, 250K to 300K merchant integrations, and bank settlement rails that a messaging app can't instantly replicate.
What would change this call
Whether Carrefour and Mia C'bon reinstate JKOPay as a payment option within the next year. Would show merchant trust recovering after the July 2025 confidence collapse.
Court ruling or settlement outcome in the Taisun Enterprise vs Jko Fintech litigation. Would show whether the asset-freeze risk and parent-level instability are resolved or worsening.
Any published 2026 break-even figures or independent share data versus LINE Pay Taiwan. Would show whether JKOPay is closing the gap on the larger rival or falling further behind.

Questions people ask
Is JKOPay profitable in 2026?
No. As of end-June 2025, JKOPay reported NT$400 million in net assets and said it had narrowed losses with a goal to break even in 2026, per Taipei Times reporting dated 2025-07-12. No confirmed 2026 profitability disclosure has surfaced yet.
Who owns JKOPay?
JKOPay (Jkopay Co.) is controlled by parent Jko Fintech Co., chaired by Jacob Mei with Clare Fann as president. Taisun Enterprise's 2023 NT$3.6 billion investment for a reported 40% stake in Jko Fintech was ruled invalid by Taipei District Court in May 2025.
Is LINE Pay JKOPay's biggest competitor in Taiwan?
Yes. LINE Pay Taiwan is reportedly used by more than half of Taiwan's population as of April 2026, versus JKOPay's roughly 6.5 million users cited in a January 2026 Xsolla partnership announcement, making it JKOPay's largest rival.
Could AI replace JKOPay?
Unlikely to replace it outright. JKOPay holds an FSC electronic-payment license and a 250,000 to 300,000-plus merchant network that AI tools cannot replicate without their own licensing and integrations, though fraud detection and KYC workflows inside the business are automatable.
How many users does JKOPay have?
JKOPay is cited as having about 6.5 million users in Taiwan as of a January 27, 2026 Xsolla/Antom partnership announcement, though a separate antom.com knowledge page dated June 2026 cites 5.9 million registered users.
What is the Taisun Enterprise lawsuit against JKOPay's parent about?
Taisun Enterprise invested NT$3.6 billion for a reported 40% stake in Jko Fintech in 2023. Taipei District Court ruled the deal invalid in May 2025 and ordered funds plus 5% interest returned; a July 2025 asset-freeze attempt followed, still unresolved as of July 2026.
