The call

Kanzhun keeps growing users, paying employers, and profit while cutting headcount, with China's regulatory regime and its own network the main things standing between it and new entrants.

Kanzhun runs BOSS Zhipin, a job-search platform where workers and companies find each other in China. It is hard to replace because it has so many users on both sides (61 million job seekers, 7 million hiring companies) that leaving for a smaller competitor means fewer matches, and because China's strict data laws prevent foreign rivals from operating there easily. The one thing that could change everything is Chinese government pressure: the same data protection rules that shield BOSS from outside competition can also be used against it, as happened in 2021 when regulators investigated the company.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. Kanzhun uses AI internally to cut headcount while revenue grows; no outside AI recruiter has taken users or paying employers yet. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: ByteDance (Douyin), Alibaba, or Tencent building a rival direct-chat hiring feature. A super-app could bundle direct-chat hiring into its existing traffic and pull users away from BOSS Zhipin's network. Could a giant copy it? No, they are blocked.
03
What protects it. Two-sided network of 60.9M job seekers and 7.1M paying employers, plus China's data-security rules that raise entry costs for new platforms.
What would change this call
ByteDance/Douyin, Alibaba, or Tencent launches a direct-chat recruitment feature with reported MAU or user metrics. A domestic super-app is entering Kanzhun's core two-sided marketplace.
CAC or PIPL regulators announce a data-security review or enforcement action naming Kanzhun specifically. China's regulatory regime is being turned against Kanzhun rather than protecting it.
Kanzhun reports Q2 2026 revenue growth below its 13.2 to 15.1 percent guided range. Hiring-volume or AI-driven demand may be weakening more than management expected.

Questions people ask
Is Kanzhun (BOSS Zhipin) profitable in 2026?
Yes. Q1 2026 net income was RMB 1,125.8 to 1,156.7 million, up 119.8% year over year, as of March 31, 2026, partly boosted by a RMB 614.1 million fair value gain from an investee IPO. FY2025 net income also rose about 72% YoY to RMB 2.69 to 2.74 billion.
Could AI replace BOSS Zhipin's recruitment platform?
Unlikely soon. Management says it has not seen AI replacing job positions at scale; active software engineer postings rose 10.9% YoY through April 2026, and AI related role revenue on the platform grew over 100%, suggesting AI is expanding hiring demand, not eliminating it.
Who is Kanzhun's biggest competitor?
Zhaopin and 51job (Qiancheng Wuyou) are the main legacy job board rivals, while Liepin contests the premium end, holding an estimated 25% share of China's professional talent acquisition market as of 2025. BOSS Zhipin leads overall MAU with 60.9 million as of Q1 2026.
Who owns Kanzhun Limited?
Kanzhun is publicly traded with no controlling parent, listed on Nasdaq (BZ) since June 2021 and Hong Kong Exchange (2076) since December 2022. Tencent holds a reported 9.2% stake as of 2026; founder Peng Zhao serves as Chairman and CEO.
Does Kanzhun face regulatory risk in China?
Yes. China's PIPL and CAC data security rules apply to Kanzhun's large user dataset, and a 2021 CAC cybersecurity review already triggered securities litigation (Bell v. Kanzhun). An active China corporate misconduct crackdown runs through 2025 and 2026, posing ongoing compliance exposure.
How many users does BOSS Zhipin have?
Average monthly active users hit 60.9 million in Q1 2026, up 5.7% YoY, with a seasonal peak above 72 million in March 2026. Paid enterprise customers reached 7.1 million for the 12 months ended March 31, 2026, up 10.9% YoY.
