The call

Dr Pepper is winning shelf space from Pepsi while the coffee side loses volume and its new CEO, mid-split with 3.1x debt on the books.

Keurig Dr Pepper makes and sells coffee machines, coffee pods, and soft drinks through its own delivery trucks and store relationships. It is hard for Coca-Cola or Pepsi to copy quickly because KDP owns the Keurig machine ecosystem (customers are locked into their pods) and has its own network of drivers delivering directly to stores and homes, but Coca-Cola and Pepsi can muscle in on shelf space and Nespresso offers a rival fancy coffee pod system. The company just spent $18 billion buying a huge coffee business and plans to split itself in two, but leadership is leaving and debt is very high, so the real question is whether management can pull off the split without fumbling the coffee side or running out of financial flexibility.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI doesn't bottle soda or brew coffee pods; KDP's risk here is limited to marketing and demand-forecasting tools it already runs. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Nestle's Nespresso and store-brand coffee pods. US Coffee volume fell 8.2% YoY in Q1 2026 while Nespresso and private label pods keep pulling single-serve share. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. A direct-store-delivery network plus 125+ owned brands and an installed base of Keurig machines locked into KDP-compatible pods.

Questions people ask
Is Keurig Dr Pepper profitable in 2026?
Yes, KDP guided for double-digit adjusted EPS growth in 2026, alongside net sales guidance of $25.9B to $26.4B reflecting the JDE Peet's contribution, as stated in its Q4/FY2025 results release on February 24, 2026.
Did Keurig Dr Pepper complete the JDE Peet's acquisition?
Yes, KDP closed its acquisition of JDE Peet's on April 1, 2026, acquiring 96.22% of shares via tender offer, and named Rafael Oliveira CEO of the planned future Global Coffee Co. per KDP's own announcement that day.
Is Keurig Dr Pepper splitting into two companies?
KDP announced August 25, 2025 that after acquiring JDE Peet's it would separate into two independent public companies, Beverage Co. and Global Coffee Co. As of June 2026 the split timeline had not been confirmed publicly, per KDP's own disclosures.
Could AI replace Keurig Dr Pepper's business?
No. KDP's moat is physical: a DSD network of 100+ distribution centers, 30+ manufacturing sites, and 125+ owned or licensed brands, per its February 18, 2026 brand announcement. KDP uses AI internally via o9 Solutions for demand planning, described in a March 10, 2026 o9 case study, not as a customer-facing replacement threat.

But KDP's roughly $37 to 38 billion market cap trails Coca-Cola's roughly $360 billion, per a June 24, 2026 industry comparison.
