The call

KK Group runs a real, growing store network with fresh JD.com cash, but Pop Mart and MINISO's Top Toy are outgrowing it in the same collectible category while four HKEX IPO attempts have not yet produced audited profit numbers.

KK Group runs bright, colorful stores across China and Southeast Asia that sell imported cosmetics, collectibles, and toys designed to look good in photos. The problem is that bigger companies like MINISO (which has 6,000 stores worldwide) and Pop Mart (which is growing twice as fast and dominates the collectible toy market) are copying the same idea and doing it at much larger scale. What could change everything is whether KK Group can prove it actually makes money when it goes public, since it has tried four times to list on Hong Kong's stock exchange and failed each time.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. This is physical retail built on store design and product curation, not an AI-exposed business today. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: MINISO's Top Toy sub-brand and Pop Mart. Top Toy and Pop Mart run the same blind-box collectible format with more stores and faster growth than KK Group's X11. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. JD.com's $300M cash infusion and a 1,000+ store footprint give it scale to keep expanding while it tries to reach an IPO.
What would change this call
Outcome of KK Group's next HKEX IPO filing after four prior attempts. Shows whether public markets will endorse its $3B valuation with audited numbers.
Pop Mart and MINISO's Top Toy report Q1/Q2 2026 earnings growth. Continued 40%+ growth would show category dominance outpacing KK Group's X11.
KK Group discloses same-store sales in Indonesia, Philippines, or Thailand. Would show whether SEA expansion is profitable or burning cash as stores scale.

Questions people ask
Is KK Group profitable?
No audited public revenue or profitability figure exists for KK Group as of March 2026. A vendor blog claims 6.5 billion yuan in 2024-25 revenue, but this is unconfirmed by any primary filing. Four HKEX IPO filings since 2021 have not produced disclosed audited financials to verify profitability.
Who owns KK Group?
Founder Wu Yuening reportedly held about 80% at founding, diluted to roughly 39-53% through financing rounds, per an unconfirmed vendor source dated March 17, 2026. JD.com led a $300 million investment in August 2025, becoming a major strategic investor alongside CITIC Securities and Matrix Partners China.
Is KK Group's biggest competitor Pop Mart or MINISO?
Both. Pop Mart posted 75-80% unaudited YoY revenue growth in Q1 2026 and over $1.4 billion in annual collectible revenue, while MINISO runs 6,000+ stores globally and its Top Toy sub-brand reported RMB 980 million revenue, +45% YoY, directly rivaling KK Group's X11 toy format as of January 2026.
Will KK Group ever complete its HKEX IPO?
KK Group has filed for a Hong Kong listing at least four times since November 2021, most recently an updated prospectus on January 31, 2024, with Pitchbook still listing status as In IPO Registration as of 2026. No completed listing or ticker has been confirmed by any primary source.
How many stores does KK Group operate compared to MINISO?
As of December 2025, KK Group ran 1,000+ stores across 200+ Chinese cities plus 150+ in Southeast Asia. MINISO operates 6,000+ stores globally as of January 2026, roughly six times KK Group's footprint, with its Top Toy sub-brand expanding fastest in the collectibles category.
Could AI replace KK Group's retail business?
Unlikely to disintermediate it directly. KK Group's model relies on physical store leases, mall relationships, and in-person experiential retail across 1,000+ stores, assets AI cannot replicate. No verified evidence exists of KK Group deploying AI tools, and no frontier AI product targets experiential retail curation as of March 2026.
