The call

Growth is fast, but the counselling core that funds it sits next to free AI tools, while the fintech and housing lines that could protect it stay a minority of revenue.

Leverage Edu helps students get admitted to foreign universities and handles visa applications, making money mainly by selling study-abroad advice and counseling. The problem is that the core counseling work (about 70% of revenue) is the exact type of job ChatGPT and other free AI tools can do pretty well, and large competitors like IDP Education have way more money and reach than Leverage Edu does. The one thing that could save the company is if it grows its sideline businesses (student loans, housing, job placement) into its main money-maker before AI squeezes the counseling business too much; if that happens, it becomes harder to copy. If instead those side businesses stay small while free AI tools take over the counseling work, the whole investment story falls apart.

Why
01
AI pressure: Free AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. Chatbots already answer SOP, visa, and university-matching questions, the same counselling work that makes up about 70% of revenue. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: IDP Education. IDP runs IELTS testing plus 20+ India offices, giving it built-in trust and reach into the same students Leverage Edu is chasing. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Regulated fintech and housing bookings under Fly Finance and Fly Homes need licenses and local staff a chatbot cannot replicate.
What would change this call
Leverage Edu's audited FY26 filings are published ahead of IPO. Resolves whether the company is actually profitable or losses are widening as Entrackr reported.
Share of revenue from Fly Finance and Fly Homes (loans, housing) crosses 40 percent. Shows the horizontal stack is displacing AI-vulnerable counselling as the main business.
IPO is filed at the rumored Rs 2,000 to 3,000 crore size within the stated 2027 to 2028 window. Confirms the growth and valuation story rather than a delayed or downsized listing.
Key numbers
  • FY26 revenue Rs 375 crore, up 112% YoY (2026-03-31)
  • FY25 loss Rs 106 crore on Rs 173 crore revenue (2026-03-31)
  • IPO target Rs 2,000-3,000 crore, valuation over $900M (2026-04-07)
Named risks
  • Core counselling revenue (about 70% of FY25 total) is commodity advisory work exposed to free AI substitution. Severity: high
  • Conflicting FY25 profitability figures across Entrackr and TechCrunch create unresolved financial credibility gap ahead of IPO. Severity: high
  • India outbound study-abroad market shrank about 15% in 2024 due to visa tightening in US, Canada, Australia. Severity: medium
  • No structural barrier stops IDP Education, Leap Scholar, or upGrad from replicating horizontal loans plus housing plus counselling stack. Severity: medium
  • Horizontal stack (fintech, housing, careers) still only 25-33% of revenue, leaving moat thin if it stalls. Severity: medium

Questions people ask
Is Leverage Edu profitable in 2026?
Reports conflict. Entrackr said FY25 losses widened 56 percent to about 106 crore rupees on 173 crore revenue as of Feb 2026, while TechCrunch reported FY25 PAT of 120 to 130 million rupees. Inc42 says FY26 revenue hit 375 crore rupees and the company turned EBITDA positive, as of April 2026.
Could AI replace Leverage Edu's counsellors?
Much of its core work, university matching, SOP review, visa Q&A, is exactly what free LLM chatbots do well. The company itself launched an AI suite called Vasu AI Coach and an AI Interviewer in 2026, an implicit sign the human counsellor premium is under pressure.

IDP Education also competes via IELTS delivery and 20 plus India offices opened in 2022.
