The call

Liquid Death has real shelf space and a brand giants can't easily copy, but slowing growth and an unproven energy-drink bet leave its $1.4B price tag untested.

Liquid Death sells premium canned water and beverages with a punk rock brand attitude, currently in about 133,000 stores. It is hard to copy because the brand identity and retail relationships took years to build, but Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have way more money, shelf space, and distribution power, so they could launch similar products quickly if they wanted to. The company just lowered its revenue forecast from $340 million to around $300 million for 2026 and is now entering the energy drink category where Red Bull, Monster, and Celsius already dominate. The one thing that matters most: whether the new sparkling energy drink actually sells at high volumes in 2026. If it does, the company could grow fast again. If it doesn't and revenue stays flat, the current valuation will likely fall sharply, though the company would probably get bought by a bigger beverage company rather than fail entirely.

Why
01
AI pressure: None apparent. AI tools mostly help Liquid Death cut ad production costs; no AI product threatens canned beverage distribution or shelf space directly. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Coca-Cola and PepsiCo (post-Poppi acquisition), plus Red Bull, Monster, and Celsius in energy. Liquid Death enters energy drinks in Jan 2026 against three entrenched players, while Coke and Pepsi already own prebiotic soda and mainstream distribution. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. 133,000+ US retail doors and DSD partnerships built over years give real shelf presence that's slow for giants to replicate quickly.
