The call

Loft is profitable and growing on regulated fintech products, but a bigger rival moved first on AI distribution and an established insurer already sits in its main revenue line.

Loft helps Brazilians buy homes and rent apartments by offering rent-guarantee insurance, mortgages, and a marketplace with thousands of agents. It is hard to copy because it has government licenses, insurance permits, and a huge database of credit information on millions of people, plus thousands of agents already using its platform. But QuintoAndar, a bigger competitor, just launched an AI chatbot on ChatGPT in March 2026 and is stealing customers faster, while Porto Seguro, an old insurance company, is now allowed to compete directly in rent guarantees with lower prices. The one thing that could save Loft is if its own AI tools start winning back customers, or if interest rates drop and more people suddenly want to buy homes.

Why
01
AI pressure: QuintoAndar's ChatGPT distribution app. QuintoAndar's ChatGPT app went live in March 2026, giving it an AI storefront Loft has not matched yet. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Porto Seguro. Porto Seguro, a large established insurer, already sells in the same rent-guarantee segment that drives most of Loft's revenue. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Licensed insurance and mortgage operations, 2M+ CPF credit records, and about 9,000 agency partners that a pure AI or marketing play cannot replicate overnight.
What would change this call
QuintoAndar's ChatGPT app volume reported over next two quarters. Would show whether QuintoAndar is pulling top-of-funnel traffic from Loft's marketplace.
Porto Seguro announces digital rent-guarantee pricing or bank-distribution push. Would show an incumbent insurer directly attacking Loft's majority-revenue product.
New Loft funding round or valuation event within 6 months. Would confirm whether Loft's $1.46B-$2.9B valuation gap resolves up or down.

Questions people ask
Is Loft profitable in 2026?
Yes. Loft reached break even in Q4 2023 and has posted two consecutive profitable years through 2025, per reporting dated 2026 03 11, with 1.2 million transactions processed in 2025, up 35 percent year over year.
Who owns Loft?
Loft is privately held and venture backed, with investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive Capital, Monashees, QED Investors, Tiger Global and BTG Pactual. Its last confirmed funding round was a roughly $100 million Series E in August 2023.
What is Loft's biggest competitor?
QuintoAndar, a Brazilian proptech valued over $4 billion after a $300 million Series E in May 2021, is Loft's largest direct rival in rent guarantees and was first in Latin America to launch inside ChatGPT, on March 17, 2026.
Has Loft had layoffs?
Yes. Loft cut staff through three rounds in 2022, including a 12 percent reduction in July and another 12 percent in December, shrinking headcount from a peak of about 3,200 in early 2022 to roughly 2,288 by year end.
Could AI replace Loft's core business?
Partly. Listing generation, initial credit screening and basic customer inquiries are already being automated by rivals like QuintoAndar and OLX's Izi assistant, but Loft's licensed insurance, mortgage origination and bank partnerships remain regulation locked from pure AI replacement, as of March 2026.
What is Loft's current valuation?
Sources conflict. TechCrunch reported Loft's April 2021 raise brought its valuation to $2.9 billion, while a 2024 CB Insights and Statista snapshot lists $1.46 billion, and no new funding round has been publicly disclosed since August 2023.
