Losing its protection

The structural protection is eroding.
On the recordSince 24 July 2026 · Checkable from H1 2026 · Every call on the record Checkpoint: Canva's pattern of SMB tool acquisitions (Cavalry, MangoAI, reportedly Ortto) continues, raising odds of a free bundled brand-kit tier
The call

Looka sells a single-purpose AI logo tool at the exact moment free general AI models and Canva's bundled suite both do the same job for less.

Looka uses artificial intelligence to automatically create logos and brand materials for small businesses. The problem is that Canva, a much larger design company with $4 billion in yearly sales, now offers the same logo feature built into its platform, and free AI image tools like Midjourney and DALL-E let anyone make logos without paying Looka at all. The one thing that could save Looka is if it sells to another company soon, or if it finds a type of customer or service that Canva and the free tools cannot easily copy.

Why
01
AI pressure: Canva Magic Studio, Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, Microsoft Designer. Free general image models now produce logo-quality art directly, cutting the reason to pay a dedicated logo tool at all. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Canva. Canva already bundles logo and brand-kit tools inside a $4B ARR platform growing 43% YoY, competing on price of zero. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. An affiliate network (PartnerStack) and SEO funnel that still drive most of its traffic and about a third of gross profit.
What would change this call
Canva ships a free logo plus site-builder tier for SMBs within its Magic Studio suite. Would confirm Looka's product surface is being priced to zero by the incumbent.
Looka announces a sale, acquisition, or new priced funding round within 6 months of the Dec 2025 secondary. Would show the secondary was a precursor to an exit rather than a stable liquidity event.
Looka's organic search traffic or Trustpilot review growth rate visibly declines over the next year. Would indicate its SEO-driven distribution channel is eroding as AI search assistants take share.

Questions people ask
Is Looka profitable in 2026?
Looka reportedly returned to profitability after cutting roughly 80% of staff in 2019 following a rocky Logojoy-to-Looka rebrand, per Growjo (2021-11-18). No audited financials are public; third-party estimates put 2024 revenue near $8M to $8.8M, unverified.
Who owns Looka?
Looka is privately held and venture-backed, founded in Toronto in 2016 as Logojoy. It raised a $6M CAD Series A led by Real Ventures in November 2018 and has had no new priced round since; a private secondary transaction occurred on December 1, 2025, per PitchBook.
Could AI replace Looka?
Looka's core product is itself AI-generated logos, but it faces displacement by bundled and free generalist tools: Canva's AI logo generator inside a $4B ARR suite (growing 43% YoY as of Feb 2026) plus Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, and Microsoft Designer producing comparable output.
Who is Looka's biggest competitor?
Canva is Looka's biggest threat, reporting roughly $4B annual revenue growing about 43% YoY as of February 2026 and bundling AI logo generation free inside its suite. Peer Tailor Brands, which raised $90.2M and added LLC formation, is also a broader-scope rival.
How does Looka make money?
Looka sells one-time logo packages ($20 to $65) plus Brand Kit ($96/year) and Brand Kit Web ($129/year) subscriptions as of July 2026. A PartnerStack case study (2023-12-03) says its affiliate program drives roughly a third of gross profit; SEO is estimated to drive about 65% of revenue per a 2026 aggregator.
Is Looka being acquired or sold?
No acquisition has been announced. PitchBook records a private secondary transaction on December 1, 2025 with no disclosed new valuation or lead investor, which some observers read as a possible precursor to a sale within months, but this is speculative as of mid-2026.
