The call

Lunit grows fast overseas but still loses money, leaned on a dilutive raise, and faces both a key customer and bigger AI models building rival tools.

Lunit makes artificial intelligence software that reads medical images like mammograms and pathology slides to help doctors spot disease. The company has real government approvals and a large database of 100 million mammograms, plus growing sales up 53 percent, but that lead is shrinking fast. RadNet, one of Lunit's biggest customers, is now using its own AI tool called DeepHealth instead, GE Healthcare is backing DeepHealth too, and well-funded competitors like Aidoc and Paige are building broader AI systems that work on many types of scans at once, which could make Lunit's narrow tools less valuable. The one thing that could save the company is its SCOPE division, which finds disease markers for drug companies, growing 90 percent a year; if SCOPE becomes a stable, repeating business before the imaging side gets squeezed out, Lunit could survive, but another major cash drain or investor dilution would signal real trouble ahead.

Why
01
AI pressure: Aidoc (CARE1 multi-indication model) and Paige (pathology foundation model with Microsoft). Aidoc and Paige build multi-indication AI models that could replace Lunit's single-cancer-type products over time. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: RadNet's DeepHealth, backed by a deepening GE Healthcare partnership. RadNet already runs its own DeepHealth breast AI while GE, Lunit's own distribution partner, expands ties with that same rival. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. US and Korean regulatory clearances, a huge mammogram dataset from Volpara, and hospital contracts that are slow to switch.
What would change this call
RadNet renews or expands its Lunit contract versus shifting further to DeepHealth. Shows whether Lunit is losing its largest customer to an in-house rival.
GE Healthcare announces bundling or defaulting to DeepHealth on new hardware. Would show Lunit's key distribution partner favoring a competing product.
Lunit needs another dilutive capital raise after the 2026 rights offering. Would show balance-sheet strain deepening despite revenue growth.

Could AI replace Lunit's business?
Lunit itself sells AI cancer-detection software, but its narrow-indication models face threats from foundation-model rivals: Aidoc's CARE1 got FDA Breakthrough Device status in September 2025, and Paige is building a million-slide pathology foundation model with Microsoft.
Is RadNet Lunit's biggest competitor?
RadNet's subsidiary DeepHealth builds a competing in-house breast AI (Breast Suite), received two new FDA clearances in June 2026, and GE Healthcare expanded its DeepHealth partnership in April 2026, even as RadNet also uses Lunit/Volpara products.
What is Lunit SCOPE and how is it growing?

Does Lunit partner with Microsoft?
Yes. Lunit's CTO disclosed on April 7, 2026 a jointly developed medical AI platform with Microsoft dating to 2024/2025, and Lunit is a launch partner for Microsoft's Dragon Copilot radiology reporting tool, with commercialization targeted within 2026.
