MobiKwik
Indian digital wallet app for UPI payments, bill pay, and small consumer loans.
MobiKwik is a licensed, now barely profitable wallet operator squeezed between two much larger UPI players, waiting on a regulatory cap that could reshuffle its market.
MobiKwik lets people store money and make payments on their phones in India, competing against much larger rivals like PhonePe and Google Pay that already handle most of the market. There is nothing special about MobiKwik's technology or customer relationships that would stop PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm from copying what it does or simply attracting its users away with better features or rewards. The one thing that could change the picture is a government rule, expected by the end of 2026, that caps how much market share any single payment app can grab, which might force customers to use smaller players like MobiKwik by default, but this is a gamble MobiKwik cannot control and could disappear overnight if the government changes its mind.
Q1 FY27 earnings (~Aug 2026) showing NBFC lending revenue growth. Would show if MobiKwik's profit rests on durable lending income, not just cost cuts.
RBI or SEBI action on the MobiKwik Xtra P2P FIR case. Would show whether regulatory trust, its main moat, is deteriorating.
- Q4 FY26 revenue Rs288.7 crore, up 8% YoY
- FY26 total income Rs1,154 crore, EBITDA Rs174 crore
- Peak XV exited 7.7% stake for Rs130 crore
- MobiKwik Xtra FIR could escalate into RBI or SEBI regulatory action.
- Core payments business runs on thin 14-15 bps commodity NPCI rail margins.
- Revenue has been flat to declining (Q1 FY26 down 21% YoY) despite user growth.
- Both major VC backers (ADIA, Peak XV) fully exited by April 2026, signaling reduced smart-money confidence.
- Profitability hinges on NBFC lending and NPCI cap decision, both unresolved as of mid-2026.

- Yes, narrowly. MobiKwik posted consolidated net profit of about ₹4 crore in Q3 FY26 (Dec 2025) and ₹4.38 crore in Q4 FY26 (March 2026), reversing a ₹121.5 crore full-year loss in FY25. Management calls FY26 an inflection year, but margins remain thin.

- Could AI replace MobiKwik's business?
- Unlikely to replace it outright since MobiKwik holds RBI licenses (PPI wallet, NBFC, payment aggregator) AI can't substitute. But MobiKwik itself says AI now handles 86% of customer support and generates 80% of its code as of May 2026, cutting its own costs.
- Is MobiKwik laying off staff?
- No signs of layoffs; per company filings headcount grew to 663 employees as of March 31, 2025, up 75.86% year over year. This contrasts with revenue that fell 21% year over year in Q1 FY26 (June 2025) before recovering in H2 FY26.
