The call

Moov has real bank licenses and a credit union foothold through Jack Henry, but it is raising money in small bridges while Stripe, Adyen, and the AI agent protocols move faster and bigger around it.

Moov lets businesses accept payments through bank networks and has actual government approval to do this work. However, Stripe and Adyen already do the same thing at much larger scale with more money behind them, making it hard for Moov to stand out. The bigger threat is new AI payment systems being built by OpenAI, Google, and Mastercard that could let shoppers pay without needing a middle-layer company like Moov at all. The question is whether Moov can build AI features fast enough and raise enough money to keep up, or whether it becomes irrelevant as payments move directly into AI assistants and card networks.

Why
01
AI pressure: OpenAI ACP, Google UCP, Mastercard Agent Pay. Agent checkout protocols could route payments directly through card networks and big tech, skipping small orchestration layers like Moov entirely. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: Stripe. Stripe has vastly more capital, scale, and now ships AI fraud routing and issuer tools while operating in the exact same embedded-payments space. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Direct bank-network licenses plus the Jack Henry credit union channel give Moov regulatory standing and distribution Stripe hasn't replicated yet.
What would change this call
Whether Moov's next financing round is a clean priced up-round versus another small convertible note. Shows if investors see durable growth or if Moov is bridging cash gaps.
Whether Stripe or Adyen announce direct integration with Jack Henry or Fiserv credit-union platforms. Would remove Moov's credit-union channel advantage and open that base to bigger rivals.
Whether Moov publicly ships any support for agentic-commerce protocols like OpenAI ACP or Mastercard Agent Pay within a year. Shows whether Moov is keeping pace with where card networks and big tech are routing payment volume.

Questions people ask
Is Moov profitable?
No public financials confirm profitability. Third party estimator Latka put Moov ARR at 15.1M as of Nov 2024. Moov raised a 4M convertible note in Oct 2025 after its Series C, a financing pattern more consistent with bridge funding than profit driven growth.
Who are Moov's biggest competitors?
Stripe and Adyen dominate the embedded payments category Moov competes in. Stripe processed about 1.4 trillion dollars in TPV in 2024, and Adyen processed about 1.4 trillion euros in 2025, dwarfing Moov's estimated 15.1M ARR as of Nov 2024.
Could AI replace Moov?
Agentic commerce protocols like OpenAI's ACP, Google's UCP, and Mastercard Agent Pay are being built directly into card networks and AI assistants, risking bypass of small orchestration layers. As of May 2026, Moov has shipped no public AI or agentic payments feature while Stripe and Adyen have.
Who owns Moov?
Moov is privately held and venture backed, founded in 2018 by Wade Arnold and Bob Smith. Investors include a16z, Bain Capital Ventures, Commerce Ventures, and Visa Ventures. Wade Arnold remained CEO as of mid-2026.
How much funding has Moov raised?
CB Insights reported Moov had raised roughly 108.6M total as of Oct 7, 2025, including a 45M Series B in Jan 2023 led by Commerce Ventures, a Nov 2024 Series C, and a 4M convertible note in Oct 2025.
How many employees does Moov have?
Headcount figures conflict across sources: Built In lists 63 employees as of 2026, LinkedIn shows 199 as of Feb 2026, and Latka estimates about 139 as of 2026, up from 83 in 2023. Precise current headcount is unverified.
