Multiverse
UK apprenticeship and reskilling platform funded via the government levy.
The same regulator that gives Multiverse its levy access just downgraded it, putting the license this company depends on under direct review.
Multiverse trains apprentices in the UK by pairing them with employers and using government funding (the Apprenticeship Levy). It has a genuine legal shield: it holds a degree-awarding license and Levy access that other companies cannot easily get. However, that shield is cracking. In May 2026, the education regulator downgraded Multiverse from excellent to needs attention, and only 52.6% of its apprentices finish their programs compared to 65.4% across the rest of the industry. Other UK apprenticeship providers like TESS Group and QA Ltd are outperforming it on quality. Meanwhile, AI tools like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini can now deliver the same training content cheaply, and AI coaching could replace the human mentors Multiverse sells. The one thing that could save or sink Multiverse is what the regulator does next: if they restrict its Levy access or mandate intervention, the legal shield becomes a death sentence rather than protection.
DfE completion-rate data release next cycle. Shows if the 52.6% rate closes the gap to the 65.4% sector average.

- Is Multiverse profitable in 2026?
- No. Multiverse posted a pre-tax loss of £63.3m on £79.6m revenue for the fiscal year ended March 2025, reported January 2026. It claims a first cash-positive quarter in Jan-Mar 2026, but this is a company statement, not audited full-year results.
- Who owns Multiverse and what is it worth?
- Founder and CEO Euan Blair owns roughly 19-20% of Multiverse as of July 2026. The company is privately VC-backed and was valued at $2.1bn after raising $70m in a May 2026 Series E led by Schroders Capital.
- Could AI replace Multiverse's apprenticeship business?
- Not directly, its UK Apprenticeship Levy access and degree-awarding license (granted Sept 2022) create a regulatory moat AI tools cannot bypass. But generic AI-literacy content is being commoditized by Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini's own tutorials.
- Who is Multiverse's biggest competitor?
- UK registered apprenticeship providers TESS Group and QA Ltd, which are outperforming Multiverse on Ofsted ratings and completion-rate transparency as of May 2026, while also offering tool-specific Copilot and Gemini apprenticeships Multiverse currently lacks.
- Has Multiverse had layoffs?
- Yes. Legal-entity headcount fell from 822 to 813 in the year to March 2025, its first decline since founding, with 55 redundancy payments made. Earlier, about a third of US staff were cut in December 2023 amid expansion problems.
- What is Multiverse's revenue and loss trend?
- Revenue grew 36.3% to £79.6m in FY ended March 2025, but the pre-tax loss widened to £63.3m from £60.6m the prior year, reported January 2026 by Proactiveinvestors. Cash fell from £135.4m to £81.8m by October 2025.
