The call

New Oriental is still growing fast inside China's rebuilt tutoring rules, but faster rivals and AI-armed tech platforms are circling the same students.

New Oriental runs physical tutoring centers across China and survived the 2021 government crackdown that nearly destroyed the industry. It has a real advantage because running brick-and-mortar tutoring centers with compliance requires money, time, and government relationships that are hard to copy quickly. The one thing that would change everything is Beijing's next move on education policy, which management says remains a live and close concern.

Why
01
AI pressure: Baidu, ByteDance, Alibaba education-AI products. Tech platforms are shipping AI tutoring and test-prep tools that could commoditize the exact content New Oriental sells. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: TAL Education Group and Gaotu Techedu. TAL grew 33.7% and Gaotu grew 35% last period, both outpacing New Oriental in the same open, unblocked market. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Physical tutoring centers built under strict 2021 rules give it compliance standing and trust rivals still have to earn.
