The call

Nowports still moves cargo and extends trade credit across Latin America, but four years without a new price tag leaves its $1.1B valuation looking like ancient history.

Nowports helps import and export companies get loans and navigate customs and shipping. It has real relationships with shipping lines and banks that are hard for a new company to build from scratch, but competitors like Flexport have more money and global reach, and the big shipping companies themselves are building competing services. What matters now is whether Nowports can raise new funding without getting crushed on valuation, or whether a larger company buys it, because running out of cash at thin profit margins could wipe out today's investors regardless of how useful the business is.

Why
01
AI pressure: Flexport's AI-driven customs and tracking tools. AI now handles document checks and ETA predictions Nowports used to charge for, but can't replace its financing book. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Flexport. Flexport runs a similar tech-forward freight and financing model at global scale, competing directly for the same LatAm importers. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. Its trade-finance underwriting and physical carrier and customs relationships took years to build and can't be copied by a software layer alone.
What would change this call
Nowports announces a new priced financing round within 6-12 months. Would show whether investors still value the company near or below the $1.1B mark.
Nowports discloses another layoff round or restructuring. Would confirm continued financial distress beyond the already-reported headcount cuts.
Flexport or Maersk announces a dedicated LatAm SME logistics product launch. Would show a better-funded rival directly targeting Nowports' core customer segment.

Questions people ask
Is Nowports profitable in 2026?
No public financial disclosure confirms profitability. Nowports has not announced a priced funding round since its $150M Series C on 2022-05-24 that set a $1.1B valuation, and no revenue figures have been independently verified since then, over four years of silence as of July 2026.
Could AI replace Nowports?
AI is commoditizing document digitization and ETA prediction, but Nowports' core moat, embedded trade-finance underwriting and physical carrier/customs relationships built since its 2018 founding by Alfonso De los Ríos, is a capital-intensive, regulated business that pure software cannot replicate.
Who is Nowports' biggest competitor?
Flexport is the closest model analog, a global digital freight forwarder with reportedly 10,000+ customers as of 2022-12-08 and more capital. CB Insights also names Nuvocargo, Moova, and DSV as direct competitors as of 2022-05-24.
Has Nowports had layoffs?
Yes. Nowports confirmed layoffs in March 2023, according to a company profile citing that period, though the company described its finances as strong at the time.
Who owns Nowports?
Nowports is privately held and VC-backed. Its May 2022 Series C was led by SoftBank Latin America Fund, joined by Tiger Global, Foundation Capital, Monashees, Broadhaven Ventures, Mouro Capital, Tencent, and Base10 Partners. No IPO or acquisition has occurred since.
How much funding has Nowports raised?
Nowports raised roughly $240 to $243M across about nine rounds by May 2022, including a $16M Series A in 2021, a $60M Series B led by Tiger Global in December 2021, and a $150M Series C led by SoftBank that valued the company at $1.1B on 2022-05-24.
