The call

PageGroup is cutting staff and shifting toward executive search while profit halves and an AI hiring tool scales in its core mid-market business.

PageGroup finds people for companies, mostly accountants and tech professionals across many countries. The company has real relationships with top clients and senior candidates, which is harder for competitors to copy than basic job boards, but LinkedIn's new Hiring Assistant tool can now do much of what PageGroup does cheaper and faster, which is already hurting profit (down 60% this year). The big question is whether PageGroup can move upmarket to serve only the most complex senior searches before LinkedIn's tool gets so good and popular that it takes over those jobs too.

Why
01
AI pressure: LinkedIn Hiring Assistant (Microsoft). It automates sourcing, screening and outreach in the mid-market accountancy and tech roles Page fills for a living. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Randstad, Adecco, Hays, Robert Walters. Larger or equally specialized rivals chase the same accountancy, tech and executive accounts while Page's margins collapse. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Page Executive's senior search relationships and multi-country delivery still need human judgment software hasn't matched.
What would change this call
PageGroup H1 2026 interim results due 6 August 2026. Shows whether revenue and margin decline is stabilizing or worsening.
LinkedIn Hiring Assistant ARR growth beyond $450m into specialist or executive hiring. Would show automation displacing PageGroup's core placement business.
PageGroup fee-earner headcount trend in Q3/Q4 2026 reports. Continued cuts would indicate ongoing loss of placement volume, not just cost control.

Questions people ask
Is PageGroup profitable in 2025?

AI is already automating the commodity end: LinkedIn's Hiring Assistant hit a $450m annualized revenue run rate by spring 2026, automating sourcing, screening and outreach. PageGroup competes with fellow specialist recruiters Hays and Robert Walters (both also declining in FY2025), staffing giants Randstad and Adecco, and increasingly Microsoft's LinkedIn Hiring Assistant, whose AI agent reached $450m ARR by spring 2026 automating tasks recruiters traditionally handled.
