The call

Panorama's contracts and compliance keep districts locked in short term, but stalled funding, shrinking headcount, and new executive hires point toward a sale that could leave common equity holders with little.

Panorama Education makes software that helps schools collect and analyze student feedback and mental health data, then use it to improve schools. The company is hard to replace in the short term because school districts have spent years feeding student information into Panorama's system, it follows strict privacy rules that keep student data safe, and contracts lock districts in for multiple years. But Panorama has not raised new money in almost five years, its workforce shrank in 2024, and the company just hired a new finance leader and board members in ways that suggest it is being prepared for sale rather than growth. PowerSchool, which already sells to most schools, could easily add mental health tools to compete, and smaller rivals like Kelvin Education are pushing out better products. The turning point will come in fall 2026 when school districts decide whether to renew or switch, and whether PowerSchool launches its own competing tool, because if Panorama sells for a modest price, investors who put in money years ago will get almost nothing.

Why
01
AI pressure: ThoughtExchange and Kelvin Education (real-time feedback tools). Frontier AI labs can't touch student PII easily under FERPA, but nimble feedback rivals ship faster AI features than Panorama. Could AI do the core job? Unlikely.
02
Bigger players: PowerSchool and Frontline Education. Both could bundle SEL and early-warning analytics into existing SIS contracts, but neither has shipped that module yet. Could a giant copy it? Probably.
03
What protects it. FERPA/COPPA compliance plus deep SIS integrations and multi-year district contracts make ripping Panorama out costly and slow.
What would change this call
PowerSchool or Frontline Education ships a bundled SEL/early-warning analytics module. Would show incumbents finally moving to bundle away Panorama's core niche.
A named large school district switches from Panorama to ThoughtExchange or Kelvin Education. Would confirm real customer loss to nimbler feedback-tool competitors.
Panorama announces new funding, a down-round, or an acquisition within the next year. Would reveal whether the current CFO/CMO/board buildup was pre-sale grooming.

Questions people ask
Is Panorama Education profitable?
Panorama has not disclosed profitability. Revenue estimates conflict sharply: Latka estimates $45.9M for 2024 while ZoomInfo estimates $84M as of July 2026. No new funding has been raised since the $60M Series C in September 2021, suggesting either capital discipline or stalled growth rather than confirmed profitability.
Could AI replace Panorama Education?
Unlikely soon. FERPA/COPPA compliance and Panorama's proprietary longitudinal data on 15M students (as of October 2025) block casual AI substitution. Panorama itself is embedding AI via Solara (announced December 2024) and its April 2025 acquisition of Class Companion rather than being displaced by generic AI tools.
Is Panorama Education being sold or acquired?
No sale has been announced as of mid-2026. But signals point that way: no funding since September 2021 (59+ months), a new CFO, a new CMO hired February 2026, and a former U.S. Dept. of Education Chief of Staff joining the board in June 2026, patterns consistent with pre-transaction positioning.
Who is Panorama Education's biggest competitor?
PowerSchool, founded in 1997, is the dominant K-12 SIS incumbent and the biggest structural threat if it bundles SEL or early-warning analytics, though it had not shipped such a module as of 2026. Niche AI-native rivals ThoughtExchange and Kelvin Education compete more directly on real-time feedback features.
Who owns Panorama Education?
Panorama is privately held and venture-backed, not publicly traded. Its most recent disclosed round was a $60M Series C led by General Atlantic in September 2021, with participation from Uncork Capital, Owl Ventures, Emerson Collective, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Spark Capital, and Tao Capital Partners.
How many schools and districts use Panorama Education?
As of October 2025, Panorama serves about 15 million students across roughly 25,000 schools and 2,000 districts. The company also reports that over 600 districts use its AI tools, with more than 380,000 students supported by its Solara product as of mid-2025.
