The call

Pax8 still has real scale in the MSP channel, but growth has stalled, its AI pivot is barely tested, and two big distributors now sell a similar marketplace to the same partners.

Pax8 runs a digital store where about 47,000 small tech companies buy and resell cloud services to their customers. The company has real advantages: it handles all the billing and setup work, and vendors trust it to reach their customers. But TD SYNNEX and Ingram Micro built their own similar stores, and growth stopped after layoffs in 2024. The bigger threat is not that these competitors will beat Pax8, but that large AI services like Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini might let small businesses buy and use AI tools directly without needing a reseller in the middle. If that happens, Pax8's partners lose value even if the marketplace still exists. The one thing to watch: whether small tech companies start selling AI agent services through Pax8 (only 13 out of 600 are doing it now), which would prove the marketplace can move into the new AI world before customers go around it.

Why
01
AI pressure: Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini selling AI direct to SMBs. If Microsoft and Google sell AI tools straight to small businesses, MSPs lose relevance and Pax8's fee base shrinks with them. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: TD SYNNEX (StreamOne, Destination AI) and Ingram Micro (CloudBlue). Both distributors now run competing cloud marketplaces for the same MSP partners Pax8 depends on. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep billing, provisioning, and vendor integrations that make switching marketplaces costly for MSPs.

Pax8 announces a new priced funding round, IPO filing, or further layoffs. Reveals whether valuation/growth story holds or financial strain continues.

Questions people ask
Is Pax8 profitable in 2026?
Pax8 has not disclosed audited profitability. In April 2024 it cut about 5% of its Americas workforce, explicitly saying the company needed to reach an inflection point toward profitability, and no confirmed profitable status has been reported since.
Could AI replace Pax8?
Direct replacement is unlikely since Pax8 owns billing and provisioning integrations with 47,000 MSP partners, but its own VP of AI Adoption found only 13 of 600 partners selling agentic services as of November 2025, showing the bigger risk is AI thinning the MSP channel itself.
Who owns Pax8?
Pax8 is privately held and venture backed. SoftBank Vision Fund 2 led a $185 million round in April 2022 that valued the company at $1.7 billion, with Catalyst Investors, Sageview Capital, and Liberty Global Ventures also participating.
Who is Pax8's biggest competitor?
TD SYNNEX (via StreamOne and Destination AI) and Ingram Micro (via CloudBlue) are Pax8's largest rivals, both broadline distributors with over $50 billion in revenue that have shipped competing cloud marketplaces to challenge Pax8's SMB channel position.
Will Pax8 go public?
Founder John Street floated an eventual IPO in May 2024 but tied it explicitly to reaching profitability first, saying there is no real plan yet. No IPO filing or confirmed timeline has surfaced as of July 2026.
What is Pax8's actual revenue?
Pax8 claimed over $1 billion in ARR around November 2022 and more than $1.8 billion in ARR by December 2022, per company statements reported by ChannelE2E, but no audited revenue figure has been publicly confirmed since.
