The call

People.ai built its business capturing sales data Salesforce didn't track, and now Salesforce is tracking it natively.

People.ai helps sales teams keep their customer data clean and organized by automatically capturing activity and fixing mistakes inside Salesforce, the software most companies use to manage customers. The problem is that Salesforce, which owns the ground underneath People.ai, just released its own competing tools called Agentforce and acquired Spindle AI to do similar work. Because Salesforce controls the main system where all the data lives, it can copy People.ai's ideas and give them away free to its own customers, which is exactly what it is doing. The one thing that could change this would be if People.ai signs big, long-term contracts with customers who decide its tools work better than Salesforce's version, proving the company is worth buying or betting on rather than waiting for Salesforce to ship the same features.

Why
01
AI pressure: Salesforce Agentforce and Spindle AI (acquired Nov 2025). Salesforce now ships native agentic analytics that automate the same activity capture and data hygiene People.ai built its business on. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: Salesforce, with Microsoft Copilot for Sales as a secondary threat via Dynamics. The company that owns the CRM system of record is building the revenue intelligence layer into the CRM itself, no separate tool needed. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Ten-plus years of trained data across $239B in closed deals and 70+ patents give it a data depth Salesforce hasn't matched yet.
What would change this call
Salesforce ships new Agentforce/Spindle AI revenue-intelligence features in coming quarterly releases. Shows Salesforce is natively replicating People.ai's activity-capture and data-hygiene value inside the CRM.
People.ai announces a new priced funding round or valuation change within 6-12 months. Reveals whether investors still value it above or below the 2021 $1.1B mark.
People.ai announces a formal contracted partnership with Salesforce or Microsoft as an endorsed data/agent layer. Would show it repositioning as infrastructure rather than a competing point solution.

Questions people ask
Is People.ai profitable or generating strong revenue in 2026?
No official revenue figures have been disclosed. A third-party estimate pegged 2022 revenue at roughly $38 million against a $1.1 billion valuation. No newer revenue disclosure exists as of March 2026, and no priced funding round has confirmed growth since August 2021.
Has People.ai raised new funding recently?
No confirmed new priced round since the $100 million Series D closed August 11, 2021 at a $1.1 billion post-money valuation. A March 2025 headline claiming a new $100 million raise appears to be a re-syndication of the 2021 figures, not a fresh round.
Could Salesforce replace People.ai's core product with AI?
Salesforce shipped Agentforce and acquired agentic analytics firm Spindle AI in November 2025, directly targeting the revenue-intelligence workflows People.ai automates. Gartner's December 2025 Magic Quadrant report explicitly frames this category as converging and commoditizing.
Who is People.ai's biggest competitor?
Salesforce is the primary structural threat, owning the CRM system of record and shipping native Agentforce and Spindle AI capabilities as of November 2025. Direct point-solution rivals Gong and Clari remain independent, while comparable vendors Salesloft and Chorus.ai were already acquired in 2021 and 2022.
Who owns People.ai?
People.ai is privately held and venture-backed, founded in 2016 by Oleg Rogynskyy through Y Combinator's Summer 2016 batch. Investors from its August 2021 Series D include Akkadian Ventures, Mubadala Capital, ICONIQ Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Andreessen Horowitz. There is no public listing or announced IPO plan as of January 2024.
What is People.ai's valuation now?
The last confirmed valuation is $1.1 billion, set at the August 11, 2021 Series D close. No priced round has updated that figure as of March 2026, roughly five years without a confirmed markup.
