Losing its protection

The structural protection is eroding.

The call

A tiny team chasing a real gap in bank lending software while a $500M incumbent and several funded rivals move into the same space.

Proximitty makes artificial intelligence tools to help banks move loan applications and paperwork faster. The company says it has legal and compliance advantages that competitors would struggle to copy, but those protections do not actually exist yet. nCino, a much larger rival with 1,800 bank customers and half a billion dollars in revenue, already released its own AI loan features in early 2025, and several other startups are building similar products. Proximitty has not announced any paying customers or shared financial proof of its software working in real banks. The biggest change would be if nCino rolls out AI that handles the entire loan process, not just early steps, within the next year or so, which could lock out smaller competitors before Proximitty lands major bank clients.

Why
01
AI pressure: Frontier labs (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google) building native computer-use agents. Generic browser-automation agents from big labs could commoditize the core action layer Proximitty depends on. Could AI do the core job? Only partly.
02
Bigger players: nCino. nCino, with ~$500M revenue and 1,800+ bank customers, already shipped nIQ generative AI loan-cycle features in 2025. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Nothing built yet: no signed bank customer, no examiner sign-off, no proprietary loan data, just early investor backing.
What would change this call
nCino expands nIQ to cover spreading, covenants, and servicing for community banks within 12-18 months. Would close the underserved-bank wedge Proximitty is targeting.
Proximitty announces a named, referenceable bank or credit union customer on a multi-year contract. Would show real production traction rather than pilot-stage claims.
A browser-automation agent from Proximitty survives 90+ days in production past a bank's InfoSec review. Would validate the integration-actions moat as durable rather than brittle.

Named risks
  • No named bank customers or third-party revenue verification exists as of mid-2026. Severity: high
  • Incumbent nCino already shipped competing generative-AI loan features in 2025. Severity: high
  • Browser-automation, no-API wedge could be commoditized by frontier-lab computer-use agents. Severity: medium
  • Crowded field of similarly-funded YC peers (Zolvo, Veritus, Chestnut) targeting same niche. Severity: medium
  • Conflicting public funding figures ($500K vs $1M) suggest unclear or unverified capitalization. Severity: low

Questions people ask
Is Proximitty profitable in 2026?
No public profitability data exists. Proximitty is a 2-person, YC W26 pre-seed startup founded in 2026 that itself stated in an April 26, 2026 job post it is 'on track to hit 7-fig ARR by end of year,' a founder claim with no third-party revenue verification.
Could AI replace Proximitty's own technology?
Possibly. Proximitty's browser-automation, no-API approach to bank software is the kind of generic computer-use capability frontier labs like OpenAI are building natively; without a proven, examiner-validated compliance layer, its core wedge risks commoditization.
Who is Proximitty's biggest competitor?
nCino, the dominant cloud bank-operating-system vendor serving over 1,800 institutions, already shipped generative-AI loan-cycle features called nIQ in 2025, moving into the same workflow Proximitty targets before Proximitty has any named customers.
Who owns or funds Proximitty?
Proximitty is privately held, backed by Y Combinator (W26 batch), Sterling Road, CRV, Cohen Circle, and UpHonest Capital, plus unnamed angels described as former Stripe and OpenAI leaders, per a job posting dated April 26, 2026. Co-founders are Wye Yew Ho (CEO) and Zi Zhang (CTO).
Does Proximitty have named bank customers?
No named customers appear in any public source as of July 2026. Proximitty's own site describes only a target market of 'community and regional banks, credit unions, and non-bank lenders' without naming a single institution.
How much funding has Proximitty raised?
Sources conflict: CBInsights lists $500K via convertible note, while Caplight cites $1M total raised with an accelerator round dated March 23, 2026, tied to its YC W26 Demo Day appearance on March 24, 2026. No valuation has been disclosed.
