The call

Qiniu is shrinking its losses and growing on AI reselling, but that same business is the easiest part of its offering for Alibaba or Volcengine to copy.

Qiniu Cloud stores and processes videos and audio for Chinese apps, earning real money (1.77 billion yuan in 2025, growing 23 percent yearly) and approaching profitability. The company is hard to replace for apps already using its video tools, but that advantage is narrow and fragile: Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, and ByteDance's Volcengine all own bigger cloud platforms and can easily copy Qiniu's newest business, which resells access to AI models like OpenAI's. The one thing that could save Qiniu is if its video-handling services become so embedded in major Chinese apps that switching costs stay high, but that depends on the giants choosing not to compete hard in this mid-size niche, which is unlikely as prices keep falling.

Why
01
AI pressure: Alibaba Bailian, Volcengine Ark, Baidu Qianfan model-aggregation platforms. Its fastest-growing line resells the same DeepSeek and Qwen models hyperscalers already bundle free or cheap into their own consoles. Could AI do the core job? Yes, likely.
02
Bigger players: Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Volcengine. Alibaba alone holds roughly a third of China's cloud market and is also a Qiniu shareholder, leaving little room to grow beyond scraps. Could a giant copy it? Yes, easily.
03
What protects it. Deep integration with 15 of China's top 20 audiovisual apps gives it a narrow, sticky niche the giants have not bothered to take yet.
What would change this call
Qiniu's H1 2026 interim results (~August 2026) show AI-revenue growth rate and gross margin trend. Whether Token API reselling margins survive DeepSeek-driven price wars or compress.
Volcengine announces or expands audiovisual-PaaS bundling for ByteDance-linked apps after 2025. Whether a hyperscaler directly targets Qiniu's core held niche.
Alibaba or Tencent add free-tier multi-model token aggregation to their existing cloud consoles. Whether Qiniu's neutral multi-model access differentiator becomes redundant.

Questions people ask
Is Qiniu Cloud profitable in 2025?
Not on a net basis, but close. Qiniu's FY2025 net loss narrowed to RMB 57.9M from RMB 459.4M in FY2024, and adjusted EBITDA turned positive for the first time, per its HKEX annual results filed March 20, 2026.
Who are Qiniu Cloud's biggest competitors?
Alibaba Cloud (~33-37% of China's cloud market), Huawei Cloud (~16-18%), and Tencent Cloud (~9-10%) dwarf Qiniu, per 2025 Canalys/Omdia data. In AI model aggregation, Qiniu's Token API also competes with Alibaba Bailian, Volcengine Ark, and Baidu Qianfan.
Could AI replace Qiniu Cloud's business?
Qiniu's fastest-growing segment, the Token API model-aggregation platform launched in 2025, is a thin reseller layer with no proprietary model, exposed to DeepSeek-driven price wars and easily replicated by hyperscalers already shipping identical OpenAI/Anthropic-compatible endpoints.
Is Qiniu Cloud growing revenue?
Yes. Qiniu's FY2025 revenue reached RMB 1,768.7M, up 23.1% year over year from RMB 1,437.0M in FY2024, driven largely by AI-related revenue which hit RMB 437.3M, or 24.7% of total, per its March 20, 2026 HKEX filing.
Who owns Qiniu Cloud?
Qiniu Limited listed on the HKEX Main Board (ticker 2567) on October 16, 2024, after raising roughly $377-415M pre-IPO from investors including Qiming Venture Partners, Yunfeng Capital, and Alibaba Group, which remains a backer and cloud-market rival.
How many employees does Qiniu Cloud have?
Qiniu reported 338 full-time employees as of December 31, 2025, up slightly from 325 a year earlier, per its audited HKEX annual results filed March 20, 2026, making it a lean, capital-light operation relative to its RMB 1.77B FY2025 revenue.
